Default how to quiet down the drive chain

    Morning all

the drive chain in my 98 manual VT is heaps loud! It is very loud when I am taking off or driving slow and is just very annoying!

It's only become real loud ever since I got a new clutch kit and I am sick of it, but the mechanic said you can't really quiet it down...it's just normal.

    any suggestions??
    Thanks heaps,

    Joe

Just curious Joe, but by 'chain' do you mean gearbox, or the tail shafts/universal joints? What does the loud sound, sound like?

    thanks for replying,

well the mechanic said it's the drive train or something. Sorry about the typo! It sounds like a bit of a grinding noise...you can really only hear it on the drivers side but it's also very loud outside the vehicle.

it's very hard to explain the sound of it...i'll try and record a video with my phone while im driving ok

    Need more information.
    What have you checked?
Did you get a sound clip?
Have you had anyone else look at it?

I think you need a better vid, i can't here any noise at 7 seconds.

Best to take it to a couple of good mechanics, it should not be too hard to track down

Maybe I need some1 to film for me while im driving.

I'm just gonna take it to another mechanic... there is an Ultratune near me.

my car does it without a load

I'm getting it checked out by an UltraTune mechanic, said it could be diff or gearbox related.

    where's the thrus bearing?

    Cheers,
    Joe

Front bearing in the gearbox? Layshaft bearings, also in the gearbox, not much else there to give the noise you are describing unless you are getting noise transfer from the back of your car or maybe a bad center bearing. Tailshaft

hmmm, well my clutch still makes a high pitch squeeling noise when I release it sometimes (especially when it's cold)....sooo annoying! That was the reason why I had it replaced..meanwhile $1500 later :|

I'm gonna show the guy from UltraTune exactly what it's doing and i don't want any bull feces!
