VX empty at 1/4 tank??

hi everyone

has anyone else had a problem where the fuel gauge indicates there is still a quarter tank, the dash readout says roughly 80kms to empty...

and then the fkn car stops cos there is no fuel!!!!!

a mechanic told my missus its a common problem, but knowing SOME mechanics (and i stress SOME.. not all) are happy to do the dodge with female customers... im not sure of his advice

can someone shed some light on this?

I've had that before. The fuel return hose in the fuel tank had perished, so the pump wouldn't pick up petrol until it was 1/4 full. I think it perished due to running the car on low tank levels too often, causing the hose to dry out and become brittle.
