Default VT... defected.. too low :s

Hey all.. need some advice. I got defected today for my baby being too low. The lowest point of the car is more than the required 100mm from the ground.. I drove over a coke can and left it standing. I also measured both front and rear wheels (centre of mag to the highest part of the guard) front is 357mm.. which is required by SA law.. and the rear is 334 which is also the required height. I got slapped a major defect which means I have to go over the pits at Regency Park (grrrrrrr).
Anyone else ever had this happen to them? Can you get a defect over ridden by another cop? Coz I really don't want to spend over $600 to have it brought back to standard height.

sounds like the bloke who pulled you over was having a bad day or his measuring wasnt up to scratch. either does happen sadly.
if you know your in the right just take it over the pits. if you have your doubts just go down to the wreckers or wherever, pay 100 bucks for standard suspension all round then whack it in.
i got pulled over once years ago on a highway in the middle of nowhere, the cops & the rta(road transport authority) had closed the whole highway off to pull everyone over. i pulls in & as normal the rta goes over the car,the cops go over the car,the sniffer dogs went over the car. they check all my details. then give me a notice for a bald tyre & send me on my way. i took the notice to work the next day,the boss signed it & no more defect notice. boring story so far, well this is the good bit,the car had no brakes at all apart from a handrake,3 tyres were bald,no parklights & i only had an overseas expired drivers licence.

If its legal how it is, then don't raise it before taking it in. How sure are you?

when you drive a commodore every cop acts like that down here.....

dont feel like your picked on mate, lots of people down here get defected for nothing while old bombs get to roam around freely and do as they please endangering honest road users.
clean her up, take it to regency, hopefully get it through and wait for it to happen again (coz it will)

OP, if you reckon the cop is picking on you and your vehicle is perfectly roadworthy, with no height issues, etc, then just take it to the place and get your roadworthy. I don't see an issue.

Had the suspension done last week.. was off by 2mm (can you bloody believe that?! And it was only the front end). Finally going over the pits for a roadworthy 2mo morning, bastards have been going on a defect spree by the sounds. Fingers crossed she passes..

If your in the business of giving money away for nothing, i'll send you my bank details.

The cost of the inspection isn't $5. And its non refundable when you prove your car is legal. THAT is the issue......

In SA, you can still be defected for it, and have to PAY to get it inspected to prove its not. I have better things to spend more than $100 on (think its about $130 now)

    This is the frustrating bit.
If you get a defect and your car passes, you still have to pay. I know a lot of people do change the car to get it legal, but for the ones that are border line and don't change anything and pass. It still costs them money for having a legal car. Pure money grabbing.

I think you'll find as well that quite often, legal in eastern states isn't legal in SA. The 100mm ground clearance rule doesn't apply to us, we've got the eyebrow height to contend with. And often, the limits they set on that are ridiculous. Prime example, a VZ SS (running FE2 factory spec suspension) is about as low as any VZ can go legally in SA.

You have to conform to BOTH the eye brow heights and the 100mm clearance. Your car at legal eye brow height probably wont have 100mm clearance.

Well the suspension passed inspection... barely. But the bastards slapped me with another defect notice for my exhaust. 95 decibels at 3200rpm.. only allowed to go to 90. Dammit more money down the gurgler and $75 for another inspection. *waves buh bye to the better part of a grand*

Sorry, I did know that. The way I worded it probably wasn't right :P

At legal eyebrow, you don't think mine will clear 100mm? In all seriousness, how about they focus on one rule. It's like they're setting people up to fail, its eyebrow is fine but it's still too low. Oh the contraversy that could lead too...
