Default Rear clunking/cliking noise with vibrations VT rear end

heya guys. im having troubles with my 2000 vt acclaim. while im driving i feel vibrations through the floor and a dull thudding noise comming from the rear wheels. as i keep driving it turns into an extremely loud clicking noise the same as a front wheel cv joint would make if it were shot. it can be heard up to 4 cars away.

ive taken it to my mechanic and he has greased up my rear cv's on both sides but it hasnt stopped it. it hasnt clicked loudly for a few days but it still gives out the vibrations and the thudding noise. ive stopped driving it as of today but noone can seem to tell me what the problem is or could be.

Can anyone please suggest some things i could check or do to recitfy this.

    Thanks heaps.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm going to take a chance and just replace the whole shaft and prey to the heavens that fixes it haha

i had similar probs with my vx, when you gave it some it would thud and vibrate like crazy and turned out to be the centre bearing in the tail shaft, i picked up a second hand tail shaft from a vz from the wreckers for 80bucks and havent had a problem since

Interesting. I must check the bearing then. Is there a way ti check it without taking it apart? I'm kinda new to the mechanical scene.

It's an intermittent noise it's not always there but I just jacked it up and spun the wheel again and there is a noise that sounds somewhat like a wheel bearing scraping coming from the tailshaft but it's only a slight noise. I've never noticed that before but saying that I've never really listened for it.

Ok so I've done the checks whilst being jacked up and there was no unusual noises coming from anywhere, and surprise surprise, as usual when you go to check something, it didn't Do it on the test drive either. So I guess I'll just have to swap out the driveshaft and hope for the best.

Thank you all for your help and responses. I appreciate it. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I had a load cracking noise coming from the rear end, as soon as it went to holden under warranty it stopped.

Lucky i had checked prior to sending it in it was the rear passenger side drive shaft coming from the diff, i could move the shaft up and down.

    New shaft, problem fixed

Ok so after a late night, and a stripped bolt, and many trips to bunnings, we got the driveshaft out, I
Going to take it for a run today and see if that fixed the problem. Thankyou all again for your help.

My 2000 vt does the same thing when turning right and when more weight is in the car, it gets louder.
I will be intrested in what you do to fix your car noise, as mine sounds identical.
