Great forum, read a bit and first time poster. Anyway have a start problem with my 1997 VT SS. Put muffler bandage on to cover small hole for short time fix. Had car on jack and decided to start (probably not good idea now) and check that bandage was taking. Car ran fine for about 20 seconds and then died as if no fuel (half tank). Car would not start. Turned over but no fire. Assumed vapour lock so purged. Still no fire. Checked leads, plugs etc and found that distributor cap had a lug broken off and no spark to plugs. So while i was there decided to do dis cap, rotor button, leads and plugs. After all this she will kick over but no fire. Any ideas at this stage would be greatly appreciated.
After replacing items do you now have spark at all plugs?
I know you said you replaced cap ect but did you recheck for spark?
Checked spark from coil and leads and spark present.
Is the fuelpump priming when ignition turned on?
If you have a spare key try that incase its the security code.
Checked and pump is priming. Also slight fuel smell from rear of car when kicking over. No fuel present just vapour....
No spare key unfortunately.
Try the relays under bonnet, switch one.See if it starts in neutral, may be the park switch.Pitty about the key as thats been the issue before for me.
Can you check for faultcodes?
Can't check fault codes unfortunately. Wish i could. Maybe would make life easier. Checked relays and fuses. Switched relay over and still no joy. Appreciate your help.
Was just reading about the theft deterrent system. Could an error have been caused because the car was running and on an unusual angle. There is apparently an override that allows you to switch the key to ON for 2 hours. Will have to try this in the morning as charging battery at moment. Thoughts.....
Tried the 2 hour key on and no go. Car is manual. Reseated leads on dis cap. Checked spark and all leads have spark. Still winding over but no start. Now at a loss.......
