Ok I pulled up at a soccer today and put the handbrake on, only to be greeted with a loud snap/bang. Now I have no handbrake, guessing the wire's gone.
Curious as to how much this is likely to set me back to get repaired?
Thanks, Mike.

Tell me where has it gone and I can quote up a train ticket
Probably just a cable, although they are not known for it. Crawl under your can and have a look; then we will try and help you from there. A cable will not be too dear.
LOL nice
Well the cable isn't dragging on the road... It's going to the mechanics on Thurs, so it will be fixed by then regardless.

I'll be sure to do that, I'm still laughing at that joke, it was gold.

Alright, got it fixed today.
Turns out the hand brake cable had snapped, was charged $129.15 including GST, pretty sure it was just age.
I can assure you all, that despite being 19, I have NEVER done handbrake turns or put undue stress on the cable. It's just old.

Well not real smart doing a hand brake turn in a rear wheel drive car anyway lol so much stress on EVERYTHING, front wheel drives fine, weeeeeeeeeeeeee lol

If its a manual not so bad just through the clutch in, But a Auto even in Neutral causes a lot of stress on the whole trans and it will make a big BANG sound, but the boots will let go generally, i know cause my brother did it lol
Even in a manual its extremely bad. How do you think the gears in the trannie like going from 3000rpm or whatever to zero in an instant, there is a lot of inertia built up in those gears.

Glad you got it all fixed up. It could just been something like the prior owner used to pull the handbrake on really tight all the time, slowly stretching the cable a bit further each time; resulting in 1 weakened cable.
QldKev
mine did the same thing... bought the cable from holden for $20 and realised its a bit of a hassle doing it without cutting the carpet, so until i can be bothered i dont park on hills hahahah
lol i told my boss it snapped and he automatically assumed i was doing handbrakies... guess its the p plate on the front of our cars =/
@Qld Kev
It's been my Dad's since just about new, I'd say it was just us both pulling the cable tight, we are both 6'4'' and a good 100kgs a piece, so we're both a bit heavy handed. Still 12 years isn't a bad run for any part on a car.
@ Cameron
Yeah the P plate is a bit of a curse sometimes, though I have still never been RBT'd by the police, nor have I ever been stopped for any reason.
