Just a quick one, can the 5L vt ss run on regular unleaded petrol, or does it need premium unleaded?
Not sure, should say in your owner's handbook. I run my V6 on premium all the time for cleaner injectors, engine and slightly better economy/power. Only makes a difference of $3-$4 per tank.

i havent got one yet lol, just doing a bit of research because ive found one im pretty keen on
Will run fine on regular but I'd be suss of ethanol. Might pay to run it on 95 instead. My Golf state 91 is fine but I run it on 95 minimum. The SS is tuned for 98 so it only gets that. But before the mods I ran this on 91.
It will run fine on regular, just steer clear of E10...
No real benifit of running it on 95 or 98 unless it's been tuned for it!

ok cheers!
now to do some calculations to see how i can afford running it D:
Any ideas of the results of running on e10??
Many say yay, many say nay. I am dead against using that shit, have seen occurrences on TV shows and eyewitnesses where that shit has stuffed up components. The car manufacturers say "Yeah, no worries use E10" Car will run fine on it for the warranty period, but seriously if things stuff up after the warranty has expired, then that's good news for them- can charge you craploads to fix damaged components, telling you stuff like"You must have had dirty fuel, etc, etc" Many members will dispute this as they swear by the stuff, personally I reckon that's thier prob. I'm never putting it in my car. Anyway, come next year the two choices will be E10 or premium.

E10 is fine for just about any unmodified car in Australia. It has a higher octane rating than regular 91 (E10 measures around 94 or 95 RON depending on brand). Adding ethanol (alcohol) to your fuel will help remove the water in your tank (yes, all tenks get it). People fall too much for the marketing dribble of premium fuel.
...and people that believe those evening TV 'entertainment' shows deserve to be ripped off.
What's your problem? This was a fairdinkum occurrence where the bloke took the car to a mechanic and after stripping everything down, somehow the mechanic was able to prove that E10 had stuffed the engine. Went to court and the bloke won. But why should I waste my time explaining myself... just run ya car on E10 mate!!!

Oh, to the OP, I would strongly advise you to read through "The E10 Debate" in the Pub forum, there are three pages of posts and a link to tests that were carried out on the stuff. Then you can make up your own mind.

I use E10 in my 5 liter and have used in a ford 6 previously, no issues at all.

Just wait a couple of years, til you start replacing injector rubbers, valve seals your car-your choice.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Yes, "somehow",it was a couple of years ago I saw the show, and I remember that after stripping the engine down, the mechanic's verdict was that E10 was responsible for the damage. I am not a mechanic and I can't tell you which part/s of the engine were stuffed. Eh, maybe you are right, just TV bullshit, eh? LOL I still won't put the shit in my car..........................

Unfortunately the odds of that happening are stacking against you. Millions of Aussies have happily used it for years with only the odd account of engine problems, which we already know about. I'd say that if engine/component failure was as common as is stated in this forum, E10 would have been removed from sale long ago and oil companies would have huge court cases to answer to.
I could be wrong, and in 30 years we find that E10 has caused all sorts of problems with cars. If that proves to be the case, I'll eat my words.
(To be honest, I don't reckon we'll even have liquid-fuel powered cars in 30 years, but that's a different topic.)
i do not know about the E10 however, i have a 5.0 VT SS Manual. i have used all of the Premiums (BP, MOBIL and SHELL) i found Mobil to be the best.
my car is 98 % stock and i can notice a HUGE difference between regular and premium. the best example i can give is this, on my regular drive to work from Narre Warren to Clayton (Victoria around 30 KM each way ) my average fuel was 10.7 l/100k using Mobil SYNERGY, the absolute best i got from BP and SHELL was 11.4 l/100k. then on regular it was around 13 l/100k (on a good week) it all ads up to about 60kms per tank.
I simply ran my car for 6 weeks using ULP, then 6 weeks using PULP from BP, then the same from Mobil etc, so i had some very solid data to support my results.
i believe the extra $8 a tank is definitely worth it, besides i can get 9.6l/100k on my drive from Melbourne to Newcastle doing 120kls/hr on PULP but only get 10.6 with 95 PULP! i would hate to see what ULP would do.
This is just my opinion, and my Wifes, and my cousins, and my good mates....... i could go on.
believe what you will but you can't ignore the facts!!
