Hi,
Went to work today and 1km down the road my gearbox light comes up on the dash. So I drive home and take the motorbike to work.
Car is a vt ss series 2 with the ls1 and 6 speed manual.
Checked my manual and it says that light comes to indicate a fault in the electronic engine management system.
Any ideas what may be wrong? And is there anyway i can self diagnose the problem instead of going to holden and getting their thing plugged in and costing an arm and a leg.
Cheers
You need a scan tool to check the codes, a regular mechanic should be able to check them for you cheaper. Or if you want to check them yourself could buy one off ebay, I paid $249 for mine.
A lot of the time the car is still quite driveable even with a code coming up on the dash. One comes up intermittently on mine, a sensor is just on it's way out. Unless the car puts itself in limp home mode then it is quite possibly not that urgent.
Cheers mate.
Reading up a bit a lot of people have O2 sensor problems. Ive got genie headers and full 3 inch exhaust thats been on the car for over 5 years now (ive only owned for 2 months).
So perhaps its that. I did run it an hour ago for 5 minutes and no light came up. So quite possibly that.
Im from NZ and over here we can get OBD2 diagnostic tools for $95.
Might invest in one, sicne this isnt the first time i wish i had one.
Just got mine checked by Lube Mobile for $70, it was a engine oil sensor high voltage, i got a vtss series 2 auto, part is $150
