Hey all,
I've had my car for awhile and i quite like it (VT II, very clean, clubsport kit, monaro lights, exhaust etc) but my engine is getting up to 250,000ks. I'd like to keep this car for awhile yet so i've been looking into getting a newer engine put in.
How difficult would it be to replace my v6 ecotec with a V8? what else would need to be changed and what sort of cost am i looking at? is it feasible? how about a supercharged v6 engine?
I have been trying to find a decent S pack or SS lately at auctions, but most are ugly colors (eg. white/silver/yellow) or have a filthy interior. Then i would still have to pay to add an exhaust, sound system, body kit etc... so thats why i think it might be better to keep my car and swap the engine?
You Can Pick up a LS1 on ebay for around 2800 to 4 K, then you have to add a tranmission to that also, Plus a wiring loom, sometimes included, then all the bits for the engine bay. Then you have to fit it all. so you could be at 6k before you know it
5.7 LS1 GEN 3 ENGINE COMPLETE HOLDEN COMMODORE VT VX - eBay V8 Engines, Engines, Components, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 29-Aug-10 15:29:24 AEST)
Forgot the Computer also, That ebay item included the loom. So means removing the dash and everything to fit it all.
I THink a supercharged V6 Conversion would be the easier way. Can find one here.

I can understand where you're coming from but it's probably not worth the expense putting an 8 in.
Maybe not be worth it to some people, But People are attached to there cars cause of all the work they have done to them. For a VX SS they are still around the 12 K mark. So you might be able to throw a 8 in for 8k or so. just hunt around and do some math. Or just drive it till you have the money for a SS :-)
Thanks for those links, i wouldnt mind paying around a bit more, i budgeted around 4.5k if i need a lil more shouldnt be a prob. Even if i paid 6k i think it still may be cheaper than buying a SS. I might even settle for a Supercharged 6
What if you rebuild your current engine and turbo or twin turbo it?
