    Default VT light issue

hey guuys, just bout my 1st VT on friday. found out my tail lights wernt working coz the plugs holdn the globes wer broken, fitted new looms each side and put new double filament globes in but now when i turn my lights on the tail lights come on but so do the break lights without actualy useing the breaks and also my park lights come on in headlights when i use the breaks even when the lights are turnd off.
any idea what could be the issue?

    cheers. Andy.

Well you must have connected up a wire incorrectly somewhere, that's the only thing it could be.. You may have connected the parker circuit to the brakes part of the tail light (instead of the tail section).

I would pull the loom out and check your wiring, then check it again.

What he said... and double check the H4 globes in your headlights are installed correctly. I've diagnosed a mates car with random lighting issues before and he had plugged one of the H4 headlight globes in wrong.

That's the best thing, disconnect it all, and re check. If you have a 12V circuit tester, then use that and a mate to check what each of the stock wires in your car do, then visually check to make sure the wires on the loom will connect to the corresponding stock wire.

Do your parker lights come on when you press the brakes with no loom attached? (So your brake lights won't work, but it's just a troubleshooting action to see if the loom is the problem, or if you need to be looking elsewhere)

ok we just disconected both looms and the park lights didnt come on when the brakes wer used, but we disconected the rear looms 1 at a time and still had the same issue and swapd them side to side and still had same issue, my auto elec had a look and thinks the looms i was given wer for a differeant light set up, so have genuine looms matched to the VIN number on order so if they dont fix the problem i no theres sumthin more internal

Why don't you do some wire cutting and try to fix it up yourself? It's not like you can use the loom anyways, so if you stuff it up, you can then order a proper one.. Then you might be able to save yourself some coin..

Decent quote to follow: "If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyways" lol

lol fair enough.. It's really simple though.. But I guess that's because I've tinkered with it before, so I know what I'm doing.. But all you need is to give it a go, then you'll get more confidence and then before you know it, you'll be pulling your dash apart and playing with wires in behind there lol

lol, well there is no chance of cutting an immobiliser wire in the break lights. Just don't cut the stock wires, only cut the wires in the loom that you bought.. just get the ground connected correctly and then you shouldn't have any problems, unless you hook a wire to a wrong connector, in which case the correct light won't work, but you're not going to blow up your car, trust me .

aight then mate. If that's the case, then it will help for you to get a 12v circuit tester too. They're like $5 from cheap as chips.. It's like a pen with a metal tip, and a chord that plugs into the top of it, with an alligator clip on the end of the chord. Very handy when working out which wires are active when certain lights are on..
