I've been reading around the forum about full exhausts for my Vx and I've decided its time I got one so I can look at getting a Mafless tune.
I'm on tight budget so I figure I can get a half reasonable system cheaply if I buy the bits separately and then put it together.
My thoughts so far:
-2nd hand extractors - Tri Y or 4 into 1?
- high flow cats
- 3" pipes
- centre mufflers - maybe hotdogs?
-3" pipes again
- Rear muffler - for this I like the idea of the varex adjustable mufflers; has anyone had any experience with these? I have heard that they are illegal but I can't see why so long as they don't exceed the db limit when fully open.
I love the sound of a loud v8 but there are certain times that having it a bit quieter would be nice e.g Leaving for work at 5.15am and not wanting to wake housemates, etc.
Would an exhaust like this be any good? Any recommendations/ suggestions?
Cheers

In regards to the Varex, make sure you have a listen to a few if you haven't already. IMO they sound like sh1t and I know plenty of people who had them installed and replaced them within weeks. Also when they're open, they do usually exceed the dB limit.
With headers, tri Ys will usually give you more bottom/mid range whereas 4>1s will help with mid/top end.
You've got the right idea with buying parts separately to keep costs down as quite often parts pop up in the classifieds on car car forums and on ebay.
All the best with it.
Thanks man. Tri Y's sound like the way to go because low down needs to be improved. Its really got nothing below 2500rpm. I really like the idea of the varex mufflers but if they sound terrible I guess I'm better off settling for somewhere in the middle - not too loud not too quiet.
For what its worth the car already has a 2.5" xforce cat back and its far too quiet.

As I said, see if you can listen to a Varex or two as you may like it. I've heard a few and they just don't sound right. Your current catback teamed up with a nice set of tri-ys and some hi-flow cats (and a tune) will definately have a nice note. The x-force tend to have a 'louder' note than most other catbacks.
