Hi All
I have been reading though this site ever since I bought my VT it wasn't in the best shape and it needed some work but at a bargin for $750 I can't complain. There have been may pages on the site that have helped thanks!. I am pretty much on my last problem and that is leaking coolant, but can't seem to find any info regarding this issue.
I have been topping up the levels every week now for a while as it is just slowly leaking out. I took the car to my mechanic and he pressure tested it and told me that it was the o-rings on the heater pipes. Refer to two red circles in the pic below (btw I nabbed this pic from this how to guide so credits to you How To Flush Coolant )
So I went down to Holden to grab some o-ring and proceeded to change them. Now he said that the back one can be a pain if you push it in too much and then pull it out it will leak. I don't remember pushing it in too far basically I just lined it up with it's bracket and pushed it in until it stoped. Well it looks like I have stuffed this one up because for the life of me I can't get it to stop leaking and now it streams out of there worse than ever. I can't even drive the car because when I start it it flows from there like a river.
If someone able to give me some advice on how I should be installing this rear pipe (the one that has a yellow dotted line along it) Also where the green arrow is I noticed that I mush have bent the bracket when taking it out so I tried to straighten it up however this didn't help either it just leaks more now.
So it looks like tonight I am going to have to rip it all out again and start over trying to seat this o-ring.
Advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
you could get away with using some water sealing gasket, like you use around thermostat housings, might just be enough to clung the leak if it lines up just right.
Thanks for the reply.
I have now installed it and it seems to be working just fine. Went down to holden and bought another $7 o-ring and installed it slowly this time making sure not to damage it.
All seems to be well.
Glad you succeeded, next time give the 'O' ring a little smear of grease, so things will slide a bit more smoothly, and not tend to drag it deeper into the recess.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Uh who knows? I mean I bought an oil filter from them at that cost $9 so why on earth this o-ring cost $7 is beyond me..
I wasn't prepared to go to bunnings and try to match it up with a cheaper 50c one only to have to rib it all out again.
It's fixed now and I am happy thats all that matters I guess.
