Hi All,
Went to my local Jane Doe Smarts yesterday for a wheel balance. Long story short the knuckle dragger hit the wheel stud with my mag, now I have a free spinning stud with nut attached that wont come off. Any hints on how to remove? I cannot get it to relocate back into the hub, and the wheel nut wont come off the stud.
Cheers
Take it back to BJ's and tell them to fix it then refuse to pay for it when the jobs done

take car back to bob jane and ask them to fix it !
this is a simple but silly ???????? but can u prove it wasnt like that when it went in there if so i dont see how they can deny they did the damage i have already got it in my mind when ever i go to a mech or tyre place i will be getting them to look over the car b4 any work is started also will be comparing the car after work is completed to see if any additional damage has been done
well it wouldnt have been like that when it went in other wise they wouldnt have been able to get the wheel off, and if they did manage to get the wheel off and noticed it was damaged then they should not have re assembled it like that nor would they have been able to.
100% this is there fault take it back and demand they fix the stud and explain there is no way it is your fault if they still refuse and be smart asses then tell them you will be in contact with them once you speak to vcat, its probably not worth going to far with it because its a simple job so i would rather just push the cocks shit off the counter and hang a piss on the floor and say it wasnt my fault.
What happened they took the n/s/f wheel off to balance and rotate with the rear. Old mate fitter put it back on then decided that it came off the rear. first time it went on all studs a ok. When he went to remount the wheel again to the front, I assume he didnt line it up properly and whacked the stud outta the hub. After trying to force it with the rattle gun, then a few large bars on the disc to try and get some leverage, old mate comes and tells me stud was stuffed when the car came in. After a discussion and a call to the manager they stated not their fault.
Anyway anyone have any idea how I can get this nut off the stud so I can replace it? Cant get a nut splitter into the mag and I dont think you can access the stude with the wheel on because the backing plate cant be removed. HELP
How about trying to grab the nut with a pair of pointy nose pliers and and pulling it towards you while rotating it to see if it will locate the stud in the hub

Thanks mate tried that also, cannot get enough pull with long nose to relocate it. Narrow surface areas of pliers dont give much power. I am thinking about going to Blunnings tomorrow and buying a Dremel to eat it away. Failing that a red hot oxy....someone talk some sense into me please.
Ok , how about taking off all the other wheel nuts then pulling the rim towards you while turning the offending nut with a wheel brace to try to locate the stud ?
Or even undo the remaining studs then lower the jack till the wheel is sitting on the studs so it won't turn then try to unbolt the nut

Without knowing the situation exactly, it's possible it wasn't their fault.
Studs shouldn't fall out if they are knocked with a mag, you need a lump hammer to get them out. Anyone that's replaced one knows this. Chances are it was already slightly loose in the hub. Maybe not enough to feel, but enough to turn the spline when the wheel nut was tightened.
You use the wheel nut to pull a new one into the hub, so the store only did what would be expected if they found it loose. I would have done the same thing.
Anyway, undo all the other wheel nuts and pull hard on the part of the wheel opposite the loose stud, while using a rattle gun to remove the nut. It will come off after a few mins. Failing this, remove the hub from the strut/contol arm and disassemble it on a bench. You can drill it out from the rear.
Thanks mate but they had the wheel on this hub twice, if it was roo ted when it came in the nut would not have undone. If you spin the thing quick enough with a rattle gun for 15 minutes, logic would tell you that the splines on the stud were well and truly destroyed...I tired to replciate this at home with by wheel brace to no avail. The store did not do what would be expected, because at the first sign of an issue they tried to rattle the thing bakc on, not inform the customer ME that there was an issue. I managed to get the stud out over the weekend without the use of a rattle gun. Looks like your motto brother is " The customer is always wrong, therefore treat him like a moron." FYI I do all my own work on my cars....so I know who has done what to whom. Cheers
Read the first line of my post you peanut.
No, the customer isn't always wrong, but the idiot forumer that shoots off at the mouth is.
Well id like to thank you all for your tips finally got it off with soaking it in petrol and smacking it hard with the hammer
Thanks Guys

I would go in there and fkn cut SICK at them.
