HI ALL,
i hope some one can help me i am hearing what appears to be pulley noise but i can not tell what pulley it is the car is a vx lumina 6 2001 how can i tell if it is pulley it is not real noisey yet but just want some ones in put on how to tell if a pulley is stuffed
thanks in advance
Easiest way is to use or make a mechanics stethoscope.
Steel rod into the end of a piece of narrow hose will do it. Put probe (rod) on the mounting bolt of the pulley and stick the end of the hose in your ear. It will sing like a soprano on speed if its stuffed.
+1 for this method you can also use a long screw driver.
Hi Guys
cheers i will give that a go amd let you know how i get on thanks heaps.
why dont you just remove your fanbelt then check the pulleys for play, noise etc 1 by 1??? thats all i ever do & it works every time. chances are if you got what you think is pulley noise its a buggered idler pulley

if u replace them put the new steel ones on as u can reuse them . press a new bearing in them. way cheaper if it happens again.
