    Default Ecotec losing oil.

My Ecotec is losing a fair bit of oil, it has gone from the full line to the fill line in just over 4000km. Now I only really noticed this after changing my lifters a few months ago, I not sure it was doing this before the change. It puffs out a cloud when I start the engine, sometimes worse than others.

My thought is that the inlet manifold gaskets were either bad or ill-fitted by myself. Can anyone think of any other possibilities?

from what you describe, you have dodgy valve stem seals. they cause a puff of oil smoke on startup and if it took 4000k to use the oil, they probably caused your oil loss

Yeah I was thinking that as well. But I really noticed this after changing the lifters and I didn't touch the springs or seals. Though I did have the number 5 spark plugs going dodgy really quickly, as in the white part burning within days and changing the seal on that cylinder did fix the problem. I suppose I should suck it up and change them all.

changing the lifters could cause this as the new lifters will give a fraction more travel in the valve stem moving the point where the seals reach. probably only talking 100th of a millimeter but enough to upset the seals. thats as good as I can describe it. hope you get what I mean
