hi normally my vt temp sits at 89 but yesterday rose to 104/105 in traffic jam got out of it and it now sits at 92 to 95 no oil in water how do i check the cap to see if its faulty also overflow is half full but radiator fluid is just visible should i fill the radiator or what as only had the vt for 3months and never had this problem b4
If your radiator cap doesn't look good, replace it on suspicion. Not expensive. As for slightly low coolant in radiator, definitely top it up. could be the cap sucking a bit of air but if you are worried, get a pressure test done on your cooling system. If you're really worried, get a compression test done on the cylinders as well. Water temp can go well over 100 without it being any concern as boiling point of good coolant, 50/50 mix is around 129c. If all is well, you can run the engine a bit cooler by installing an 82c thermostat. A few of the blokes on here do that.
ok am on my way to supercheap shortly get coolant and cap cant do thermostat as all my tools r at my house 400k's away so hopefully will get me home tomoz and get it done... when i topup the radiator do i need to bleed it at all or just top n go as i wont be doing anything else except getting coolant n cap
Would be better to bleed it. Also, if you can, use a coke bottle with the base cut off and enough insulation tape wrapped around the neck to make it a neat fit in the radiator neck (I am guessing you don't have the Holden tool for filling the radiator). Open the bleed valve so a little air/coolant starts to come out of it then pour coolant mix in slowly until no air is coming out of the bleed valve and radiator is full. Close valve, job done. Keep new tool for the next time.
quick last ???? but where is the bleed valve
