    Question Flat Battery

    Hey guys,
over the last few days my car has slowly been dying and yesterday the batt was almost dead, electrics still worked ect (I have hardly drivin it over the last week). But I changed the battery around with what i had in my falcon and its newer but it was completely dead as well. I got it going for a bit with jumper cables, but I was just wondering if its the alternator not charging the battery or my battery is just a old shitty one that needs changing. its a simple problem but its confusing me haha cos i had the same problem with my falcon, and its annoying
    Thanks guys

Most battery places will check your alternator for free, hit them up.

get your battery load tested and measure the output voltage on the alternator, most battery and tyre places will do this for free. If the battery is OK and charged and is going flat see if any circuits are drawing a load when the car is off and also check the field diodes in the alternator if they are stuffed the battery can discharge through them I think.

Check for lights staying on, such as the glovebox or boot light. It's simple i know but it happened to me once - i'd removed the beaver panel out of my VT's boot and left it out for a while when i was doing some wiring work. The boot light was staying on so six days later she was flat. It was then i realised it was just me.

Check for loose and/or badly corroded battery terminals (i.e. with intermittent, very little or no contact between terminal and post). Also check for a dodgy earth lead (i.e. between battery and chassis).

But as others have said get a battery place to check it - this won't cost anything.
