Default Advice Needed about an Ebay "mod"

    Hi all
I have just brought a VX II Berlina with low klms and running well and caught this mod on ebay.
I'm not at all clued up on the electronics on this car and am looking not so much for performance gains but good fuel economy. Also are the generic code readers that are available on ebay any good?

here's this "mod" eBay Australia Shop - Pro Race Direct: Bicycle Accessories

    Cheers Shannon

Hey Shannon, hmmm I'm dubious but willing to be proven wrong of course. I just don't see 20bhp for 20 bucks....... If it's true then you guys get to the back of the que behind me...... Someone will know the answer.

I don't really see how something like this could give you 20BHP. Unless the computer is designed to give you less fuel at low temperatures to compensate for the slight increase in power you get from colder air and this makes the computer think the air is hotter than Hades....

I'd like to see someone buy this. Take their car to a dyno and do a before run, fit and do an after run. If it doesn't deliver the seller said all disputes are refunded 100% so hold him to it.

+15-20 = -5 BHP, which sounds about right for majority of these ebay gimmicks.

Dont wate your money, probably get better performance from cleaning your air filter.

all they do is make the ecu think the air coming in is colder than it is so it advances the timing so the ecu throws more fuel in so you get more power an i would say less fuel economy as there is more fuel going in.I wouldnt bother myself but its up 2 you
Take it easy...But do take it...

Do not argue with an IDIOT.

“INSTALLING THIS MODIFCATION WILL UNLEASH THE TRUE FACTORY INTENDED POTENTIAL OF YOUR ENGINE BY BYPASSING THE LIMITATIONS PLACED ON THE ECU BY GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS!’’
    So it's illegal.

This mod is installed into the Air Intake Sensor (AIT)- NOT the ECU itself. The ECU is preset to believe the air temperature is always a lot warmer than it really is. This means less timing advancement, less fuel and less power. This mod simply allows the ECU to revert to the intended default setting for air temp. This means more timing advancement, and a smidge more fuel that results in a lot more power.
"Intended default setting for air temp"? There's no default setting, it changes depending on the air temp, which it won't do with this.

And lol at $19.90 for a $0.50 part...

lol... these 'mods' keep coming up again and again.

All it is, is a resistor that tricks your ECU into thinking the air coming into the engine is really really cold, causing the ECU to overfuel the engine.

It screws with the ECU because it's faking the job of a sensor, it makes your car run rich thus the fuel consumption and in the long term is will cause your plugs and O2 sensors to foul and your cats to block up.
