So I am thinking of taking the step up to hid's. The headlights I have fitted are aftermarket altezzas with h1 low and h1 high beams. When I change to high beam the low beams turn off I guess to keep the head light cooler. The question is do hid's have a delay time in them so that if I was driving with low beams on and I hit the high beams would I be without lights till the high beams warmed up?
Have fun blinding people with improperly setup HID's. Oh and enjoy the defect.

With the altezza headlights the low beam lights are fantastic for setting up and probably project better than standard. why do you say improperly setup???? how could there be a defect for having decent lights on your car? are you saying that just because a car doesnt come out with hid's its a defect to fit them??? IF you dont have the correct information that you want to relay then STFU!
Because to have HID headlights a vehicle must of already passed the necessary ADR's when made from factory. Yours never came with HID's so yes it is illegal. If you can't take advice then gtfo.

they have to be in projector headlights, and saying you have H1 low beams im pretty sure you have projectors, as i have the same altezza headlights, I recently put HID's in mine and i would NEVER go back go halogen, they are amazing!!
to answer the question, yes, you would have a split second of no light while they warmed up, making them useless for flashing people. That said, HID's hate beling flashed and wont last long like that.
HIDs are so stupidly bright you do not need hid high beams. So leav the halogen high beams and put hids in for low beams
No. The ADR's state a vehicle equipped with HID's must have some form of self levelling and also a way to clean the headlight. So doesn't matter what head light it is in there illegal and I can guarantee most altezzas are in fact not ADR approved.

Thanks sxc_sound I will definately look into getting a set for the low beams. D

did I insult you??? hmm you must have taken something I said the wrong way. I was merely showing that the lights that I have are adr approved.
When I see an official ADR stamp on the headlights with the relevant codes I will believe you.

you know those little washer nozzles that come out from the bumper, or the black ones sticking out on a bumper? legally, hids need those, little different to a carwash.
cops dont have to pickup on it, if they think its too bright, BAM defect. its then upto you to have it cleared.
its the risk you take running any "illegal" modifications on a car.
It says ADR compliant,, means designed to the specs doesn't necessarily mean it was approved.

As the others have said, you can't use HID legally in halogen designed housings or in a car that didn't come with them from factory due to the lack of self levelling and self washing. Many people still do it... But you will most likely be making it dangerous for other drivers due to the glare from your massively bright lights.
those headlights on that link are adr approved, If your that desporate il go take a photo of the adr stamp on mine..
Also whats this self leveling? aslong as its not in a halogen designed housing. which it wont be, those headlights are projectors
Your a dead set idiot mate. Learn to read or maybe it's time you had your eyes checked.

They're ADR compliant with halogen globes. HID headlights REQUIRE washer nozzles and self/auto levelling because the HID puts out so much more light. The levelling is a system where the headlights auto correct their height depending on the level of the car. Like if you put a trailer on, the headlight would be pointing upwards blinding other drivers so the levelling automatically prevents that.
You cannot legally put HID in those headlight housings that were linked to.
So if I cant 'legally' put in HID's what are the brightest 55w halogens that are white in light. the cheap ones just dont cut the mustard
You could try Phillips Xtreme Vision +80's. Have put them in a fair few cars now and have heard nothing but praise for them.
