ok guys heres a dumb questionFor a while now my VT wont start 1st go it sounds like its choking the 1st go but starts 2nd go everytime? I had a new engine put in it 2 weeks ago and it still had this starting problem, i left the car in the driveway for the last week and just went to start it but it just rattles like a machine gun when i turn the key. Is it just a rooted battery or has something that was causing my starting problem finally died?
sounds like flat/faulty battery, or bad connections.
could possibly be faulty starter solenoid, but that would be uncommon.
machine gunning sound is usually a battery problem.
machine gun sound usually indicates battery is pretty flat but it can also happen if the hold in winding in the solenoid is stuffed but i would be guessing its the battery. just put your battery on charge for 24 hours then see how it goes
ok charged the battery the car started fine drove around all day, but the next morning same thing dead flat...put a new batterry in drove around all day next morning only just started, but then the next morning dead flat again??
youve got something draining the battery by the sounds of it, or possibly not charging.
need to check things like glovebox light, boot light etc to make sure there not staying on. boot lights are common to stay on because the switch bracket bends back.
also, check the charge rate, should be around 14v-14.5v.
ok guys battery went flat again last night and i had to go jump the car a 3am cos the wife had just finished work and was stuck there, took it to the mech's today they tested the alternator and battery and said they were both fine, hooked it up to the laptop and it came up as a immobiliser problem they said the metal key ring was rooted and changed it, then told me it was fixed. But it still has the starting problem will not start first go its just wont kick over not matter how long i hold the key on...so was it the immobiliser and if so how would that flatten my battery?? and why is the starting prob still there? im about ready to take to it with a hammer
what might drain it? i have taken the boot light and glove box light out, just changed the fuel filter and cranked it for about 5-10seconds with the fuel pump fuse out and this flattend the battery again. This is bullshiit that shouldn't flatten the battery im about ready to take to the car with a hammer.
take it to an auto electrician they would have a better idea than just a mechanic and will be able to find any drain.
As axemurder101 says, take it to an auto electrician to get this problem fixed. For example, internal problems in the alternator can cause current drains even though the alternator may be charging OK.
Yeah but depends wat he does 2 it. i had a problem, well i thought i did with my VP's alterntor and the auto elec guy powered the alternator on the bench 2 see wat amps it was pulling out and at wat rpm 4 it 2 start charging. i wouldnt think a mechanic would do this 4 u as they would prolly just do the basic checks.

ok had it back at the mechanics today they tested the fuel pressure and reckon that my fuel pump is stuffed because the fuel pressure drops back to nothing as soon as the car is turned off? they also said that the starter motor is on the way out from having to crank the car to get it started, I'm thinking about doing the pump myself to save some dollars as they want $150 labour, i thought that you had to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump but the say you can get at it through the boot?? its a 99VT v6
