Default Rear Speaker/Door Card Issues *Help Needed*

Hey guys, Had a person in the backseat for the first time yesterday and they told me they couldn't hear any sound from the rear speakers..

After further investigation I saw that there is no bloody speakers in the parcel shelf and I couldn't hear/see anything in the rear doors, I guess the previous owner took them out the bastard..

After reading Ozzie's "How To" Remove Door Card & Speaker Grill on VT-VX I took my door card off and surprisingly there was actually a rear speaker sitting in there..

Here's a pic of the door card off:

    The speaker still in there:

    The wire still hooked up:

The part number on the back:

Does anyone know why this bloody thing won't work? I've unplugged/replugged the wires and that didn't fix it obv..

    Cheers

Are both rear speakers not working or just the one?

I'd be checking the wiring at the headunit. Also get a multimeter and measure the resistance of the speaker - it should be around 4ohms.

I have the same problem on my vt, although I noticed if you fiddle with the rubber casing that conceals the wiring going into the door from the b pillar area, it seems to cut in and out. Perhaps the wiring has worn away on the inside of the rubber? I haven't had a chance to check it out but its on my to-do list

I'll have a fiddle with the wiring on the door as I can't get my headunit out because the previous owner didn't give me a PIN - I'll have to take it into holden to get that...

You should be able to pull the headunit out - but just don't unplug it if you don't have the pin.

You should be able to see if the wirings been messed with though.

stupid question, but have you checked your fader/balance controls? Maybe your speakers are faded all the way to the front, hence the silent rears..... Worth asking before you start pulling crap apart

There are no fader options in a VX ... as far as I could find.

Didn't risk fiddling with the headunit.. is there a possibility that the missing parcel shelf speakers may be in circuit with the rear door speakers and that's why they don't work?

Id test the speakers with the fronts 2 see if its the speakers themselves that r no good. If there were speakers in the parcel shelf at some stage the previous owner could have cut the wire in the pillar and tapped into that 2 run new wires 2 the rear shelf. i did this 4 a lil while b4 i put amps in and left my original speakers in the doors.

Hey mate, good idea about testing the speakers with the front. I'll give this a go tomorrow.

Not sure about the tapping.. The original owner finally got back to me - he said he never noticed the rear speakers not working, he had 6x9s in the parcel shelf and a sub under the carpet of boot.

There are fader options, push the volume buttom in and as soon as it shows "f" on the screen you can use the dial to go left or right and it will adjust the fader to front or rear....worth a shot

U could also check the wiring from the head unit and/or loom at the pilar 4 continuity with a DMM, if u hear nothing its been cut or has a break somwhere.

Just checked this, if you press the volume knob once, it shows "TRE" - press it again it shows "BAS" - press it again it shows "BAL".
If you hold down the volume knob, it shows "TRE" then back to normal clock - nice try but damn!

I'm not too familiar with any of that, all I know how to do is check the connections with a multimeter lol.

If he had 6x9s in the parcel shelf then i would say he has used the wires from the rear door speakers to run them . He may have cut them near the centre pillar and then run them under the carpet and then behind the rear seat

Alright mate I'll try this tomorrow - as well as putting them in the front door to test.
    Cheers

Ah ok, so there would be no factory wiring in there? I guess it depends on how the previous owner wired them up.

not unless it had the subs there previously as they had an external amp 2 run the subs i believe.

There's no benefit in making the door speakers work? Wouldn't it sound better?

Can you recommend a setup? By the way, it has a "spacey spare tire" (really thin spare tire) which was put in to allow more room for the sub I assume.
