i think i know the answer but which has more kw?
from a vn to a vy, its all down to reaction time off the line and how good a condition the engine has been kept and tyres LOL
lol but dude he has a vy so that will beat that other guys vt cuz it has 5 more kilowasps bro
VT S PACK
Here's some radom stats I had looked at once
Model, KG, KW, Power to Weight Ratio %
VN, 1311, 125, 9.53%
VT , 1551, 147, 9.48%
VT II , 1512, 147, 9.72%
VX V6 , 1519, 152, 10.01%
VX V6 Super, 1519, 171, 11.26%
VX V8 , 1590, 225, 14.15%
VX V8 Stage I*, 1590, 320, 20.13%
VY , 1522, 152, 9.99%
*The VX V8 Stage I is average for an OTRCAI + full exhaust + tune
So by the table the VY beats the VT, in power to weight; but how they get the power onto the road is different.
QldKev
qldkev,
i dont suppose you have the same kind of stats for the clubby r8?
in particular vt2 through to vy2
im looking at buying an ls1 for <25k
Cheers,
Kyle
It is something like
VT II, 250
VX, 255
VX II, 255
VY, 260
VY II, 285
The main thing is to remember if you are going to do the stage I mods, it will be fairly close (if not better) to my 'VX V8 Stage I' (ie 320-325kw) after the mods. After market OTRCAI + extractors/cat/exhaust + mafless tune will make a good difference even from HSV spec. Thinking about it, I think they have a more aggressive cam duration and some possibly a different intake manifold, so maybe expect a bit more.
Don't forget with the HSV you will get better brakes, and suspension; although it may be getting old. And of course body kits etc. The down sides will be cost of insurance.
QldKev
remember to factor in the full exhaust + OTRCAI + tune = $3,000
thanks qldkev
looking at power to weight does the vx stageI still come out above the vyII 285?
pretty much what im asking is is it worth spending the extra looks like ~5-10k for vyI or II over buying a vx and putting a stage1 in it? (all r8 - prices off carsales)
Sorry mate, i dont understand?
What vt are you talking about?
Oops first the quoted kw is standard HSV, not a true R8.
The R8 some models had a few more kw, also has close gear ratios, and short dff ratios, making it quick off the line.
By using the figures above
VX II V8 Stage I, 1590, 320 = 20.13%
VY II V8, 1600 (above kg was V6), 285, 17.8%
So power to weight the stage I VX wins.
The VY weights in at 10kg more, so if you had the same KW the VX still wins. (very close)
The VY is newer looking; but does have a very Asian influence on the dash setup. Depends on what you want to look at every day.
With after market mods you will achieve better results than factory any-day; after market mods are often using the most recent developments and applying them to the older cars.

I should also add some people like to use the power to weight ratio of kg per kW
so just divide the above number in reverse to get that.
VX II V8 Stage I, 1590, 320 = 4.96
VY II V8, 1600, 285 = 5.59 kg/kW
(same outcome but different way of looking at it.)

Thanks very much! very helpful!!
i much prefer the body of the vx too.
unfortunately every bloody p-plater out there has a vs/vt with a clubby body kit so i wont really be set apart unless they try and take me off the lights :\
anyone selling a vxII clubsport r8? (NSW)
there is one on carsales.... it looks quite nice but doesnt have the leather seats, which i think i want.
