    Default Gearing issue.

I have an issue with gearing what im guessing is coming from the gearbox itself,
once i put my car in neutral while i was going, cause i bumped the shifter it slipped in, i put my car back into drive, my drive gear acted perfectly normal along with 1-3 gears, however neutral acted as gear 1 and reverse acted as park, im not sure what park was, but it seems like all the gears have slipped around, how is this fixed?
would i need a new gearbox?

    Default shift pattern wrong

Hi, What you are describing sounds like just shift adjustment Put the rear of your car up on ramps or stands, handbrake on. block the front wheels both in front and behind. Get under the car and have somebody move the shift lever right through the range, park to low. you will be able to see where the shift rod should be. Put the lever back in park and loosen the clamping bolt on the shift rod. Then push the lever on the side of the gearbox fully back till it wont move any further. the box should now be in Park. Make sure the gear lever in the car is in Park as normal and tighten the clamp bolt. test. If it is correct, good. If it is still the same problem, run through the procedure again. If the rod is bent, it will have to be straightened or replaced. every VT, VX and VY have the same rod and wrecking yards are full of them. Probably $5 or $10. And, no you should not need a new gearbox

would a hill be sufficient enough to test it on?
my car does struggle to get up it at times, so it seems very steep to test it on. Big relief to know that its not a majour issue to deal with, thankyou.

commo_93, you can test it on a flat road. If your shift pattern is correct, (if the numbers on your shift indicator correspond with the gear your box is in) all is good. As for struggling up a hill, instead of giving it a bootfull, just pull the shifter back to 3rd or 2nd gear. easier on the car. I cant think of a hill I have been on that my VT could not get up in 3rd or 2nd

okay thankyou, one last thing, would i be able to correct this myself? or would i need a mechanic? is the lever i need to correct on the top of the gearbox, or the side? would i be able to access it with ease?
