Petrol. Seriously the car can run on 91, 95, or 98 octane. unless its tuned for a specific fuel.

I only run 98 octane because I have higher compression and a 98 octane tune.

The 3.8 litre Ecotec engine is designed to run on 91 RON so the extra octane is not needed and to all intents and purposes can't be utilised.
I've been using E10 since 91 Unleaded is no longer available in my area and on a recent trip on the Sydney to Newcastle freeway the car returned at best 7.61 L/100km and averaged around 8.1 L/100km using E10.

I was running Ultimate BP. Have been for over 2 years. Last two tanks have been standard unleaded fuel. Can't pick the change anywhere around 70% throttle. Only time i feel it's a little less acceleration is when pressing 100%. But it's nothing i can live with that. economy has been similar.

Always use the best fuel possible. Its funny how we don't blink sometimes when spending money on mags, exhausts, headlight bulbs, floor mats, synthetic oil, but people seem to have to make a huge decision on fuel type.

I always use the best fuel possible in any cars which I have owned being it a 4cyl banger or a 10sec VL Turbo. BP Ultimate is my choice. Even if the hype of better fuel efficiency, injector cleaner etc etc is all a lie, it still will be better than using lower grade fuels in my opinion.

On average, if you fill up once a week and premium fuel or Ultimate 98 is 10c/litre more than regular ULP, this means that on a usage of 60lts per tank is $6 extra per week. Over a whole year this is $312. This is a minor amount to pay for using something that may and should be better in every respect for your car. Even if the benefits are minor or negligable, it will not hurt the car.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

i checked with the guy i bought the car from and he was using V Power. he rekons its the best going round but i have BP and Mobile sxervos closer to home so i'm gonna switch it over.

HoldenOnn - Great point about the price difference between 98 vs ULP.

As for the cost of fuel, I remember paying $2 Litre for ULP somewhere in outback W.A. on a road trip about 5 years ago so what we're paying here in Sydney for 98 isnt so bad methinks.
