i just did service to my car for the first time without going to dealers.. i did use castrol magnatec 10w40.....
but i added all 5 liters instead of 4.8 liters and the car drive nicely no leaks at all and no problems.
but is it OK to add 5 liters ?????
thanks
you dont say what motor you have
200ml not enough to worry about
most VTs burn that every 1,000kay
You will have no issues at all. Adding a couple of hundred extra mls will create no dramas in your situation. Relax and enjoy your car now you have done the oil change. Well done![]()
nah just interested
you know how LS1s love the oil!
thanks guys. my car is vx v6 commdoore 2001. done now 140000km it was really interesting and what an easy job man. i used to take it to holden they charge 260$ oil change and filter plus air filter. now i do it on my own lollllllll. but the son of bitch one of the guys who did service to my car at holden has tighten the sump plug tighten as hell it took me 30 mints to release it god damn.
i wish i can do my engine mounts coz i feel a little bit of vibration at idle through driver seat and passenger and steering wheel as well. took it to pedders and they told me one of ur mounts on the passenger side is very soft and about to go acutally both. so they quote me 300$ which is cheap comparing to others. but noway i can do it myself its a hell job.. pedders told me that they have to remove air compressor roughly gonna take 3 hours.
Same as me, when I got my VY it had been dealer serviced al it's life. I went to change the engine ol and could not get the sump plug undone. In the end I had to jack the car up fairly high and hold my feet against the wall of the garage to stop myself sliding on the ground. Same deal with the wheel nuts I had to put a piece of water pipe onto my wheel brace to get them off.
I bought myself a torque wrench which I use for both the sump plug and wheel nuts now.
When you changed the oil did you use a new washer onthe sump? They crush when done up to the right torque.
As far as extra oil goes when I go tmy VY it had just been sericed 1000km before and was way overfilled with oil. I took a bit of it out using a long tube in the dip stick tube with a syringe on the top to suck it up (when the oil was warm). Extra oil would only be an issue if it was filled up far enough so the crank hit the oil while it turned.
Yer I'm i'n the same boat for the engine mounts, 300-400 But mines not a rough ride,
no mate i didn't replace the washer and checked 100 times for any leaks from the oil filter and from the sump plug no leaks at all. but the reason why i added 5 liters which is all the oil gallon is because of the ground is not straight so i couldn't get an accurate read for the oil on dipstick.now after adding 5 liters it reads up to the numbers on the dipstick above the full mark.
that's what they told me ..... and replacing the auto transmittion mount is a must after replacing engine mounts. so all together 380$ 2 engine mounts are 80$ and trans mount 80$ plus labor =380$. i booked it already next week.
make sure you buy genuine engine mounts - the crap kelpro ones from repco/supercheap flog out much sooner.
CONVERT TO V8& NEVER LOOK BACK
