Hi all
Last few days this clicking noise under the dash has been driving me INSANE!!
Checked a few threads and it is either the indicator stalk or a relay. It sounds like a relay, the constant 'click click click'. But my question is which one and how can I isolate it while I am NOT driving? All operations on the car seem ok - the car is driving normally. But this clicking is sh**ing me off no end.
Any suggestions?
Thanks mbvp73
I had something similar to a clicking noise near my steering column also, found out it was all the crap my gf buys me to put on my key chain with my keys LOL removed all crappy items problem solved.
I would be thinking it's going to be the relay or the indicator stalk canceller not working properly
That ticking i've had plenty of times before, my dad had it happen 3-4x on his VT, it's the indicator so i've been told.
You need to get some part replaced under that plastic covering.
It might eventually go away like it did for me, but it will come back.
It's also known to be the clock spring mine does it too,
i reckon you'll find that it's the indicator stalk. quite common for it to happen.
Hi all
Just got a quote from a Holden Dealer - $115 for an indicator stalk!! From looking at this forum it sounds like it should be $65 NEW for a genuine part from Holden! Hmm, might have to go to the wreckers. Anyone have an idea as to how much I should expect to pay at the wreckers?
I think mine was about $80 from holden or copies off ebay for around $60
$80 sounds better than $115!! I might ask a couple of dealers. Also looking at wreckers - more of a gamble I know but money me not have much!
I had a clicking noise from the rear wiper relay (cause my rear wiper was jammed and not working when the wiper stalk was pushed forward to turn the rear wiper on, the rear wiper would continually click in the back ground. Only mentioning this just in case it is an easy fix.
Is the clicking ony when you are driving or any time the car is running?
Regards
Bondy
Hey Bondy717, it only seems to happen when I am driving. Never heard it at idle. Mind you, something interesting happened today. Coz it was cold as today in Melbourne, the noise went away! Maybe coz earlier in the week it was warm something is expanding and making the noise. When I put the heater on in the car the noise came back! But yeah, to answer your question, it only happen when the car is in motion.
Hey Mate, Had the same thing happen to me and it was the indicator stalk. use to get the relay clicking like made, wiggle the stalk and stopped. I Got one of these copies and its the same thing, does it all and this even has the cruise part

It clicks on the steering wheel, when I turn abit and if I'm going round corners it clicks about 3times when it goes all the way to full lock
Hey 11gothevt11, purely a financial thing. I will try and get a new genuine one or a new copy - but I can barely pay the rent so that's why. The noise, annoying as it is, is 'fixable' coz the stereo drowns it out but the operation of the indicator is as normal.
I managed to record it on my phone and I've uploaded the noise here.
OH thats okay thats good then!
hi all
Just an update on this. I still get that clicking (check my last post to have a listen to it), but now the right indicator flashes/clicks at double rate compared to the left. I have noticed the front right indicator bulb didn't work so I replaced it. But still, the front right indicator doesn't work with either indicators or the hazards! (The bulb I took out was fine too). Seems to be some strange things happening. I am trying to get my hands on a new flasher unit but if I replace that and it still doesn't work I would have to say that it is the indicator stalk.
Can anyone shed any light why my right front indicator doesn't work, even with a new bulb? Is it the stalk? The flasher unit??
Any advice would be most welcome
Cheers, mbvp73
I Listened to that noise, Thats something completely random, sounds like ball bearings bouncing around. sure its not coming from the engine bay?
Hey edals
No, its definitely from inside the car! Under the dash somewhere. Can't really pinpoint exactly where but from everyone is saying the indicator stalk sounds about right.
I changed the flasher unit today and no change, the right indicator still flashed double speed. Going to get a new indicator stalk this week. If that doesn't rectify it, off to the auto elec I go!!
That's not the sound of a faulty indicator stalk!! I don't know what it is but it isn't the stalk.
