Default water in boot lid and loose boot lid

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

Water is getting into the boot lid whenever it rains. It appears to be getting into the lighting assembly that runs along the back of the boot lid.

Whenever I open the boot all the water runs out from the light assembly and into the actual boot, therefore making the boot almost useless, as everything inside gets wet.

I've also noticed that when the boot is closed I can grab the boot and rock it up down slightly. Previously it would lock tight and you couldn't move it at all when it was shut. It appears that something as loosened over time. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the water issue

Any suggestions on whether this is easily fixable?? The water issue sounds like a seal that has deteriorated over time, but I'm not sure if it's a DIY thing or not.

just drill some holes in the boot under where the water comes out, that way when u open you only get a tad run out, just make sure u out some paint over for rust

Open your boot. On the inside of the boot lid, where the steel is you should find around 4cm from each corner a sort of half round bumps. It's about 8mm long and sits out about 3mm. Get a very small screw driver or scriber and push through the paint. Behind the paint will be fill of putty. Scrape the putty out and your drain holes will work. For some reason holden painted over the drain holes in the VT.
Sorry I don't know how to post photos, but you should be able to find the drain holes.

Brilliant advice! It just fixed the same problem in my son's 50th anniversary edition Vt, we may check the wing seal as well later but this fix allowed a good 1/2 cup of water to drain out as soon as we did it. I imagine this would have caused some rusting eventually
