replacing my front hand brake cable today for my vx.. any advice??
ok i have installed the cable but cant figure out where it screws into on the handbrake handle itself as the other cable was taken out ages ago...
never mind all doneeasy as to do and save dsome $$$ by doing it myself
i was wondering about this. I wanna replace mine with a vy one. so not hard ay?

nah i replaced the front cable that runs from the handbrake handle to under the car where it meets to other cables that go to either wheel.. not sure about the vy handle itself butits fairly easy to take the centre console out and expose the handbrake mechanism![]()
How hard was it to feed the cable from under the car through to the handbrake lever?
Any tips that made it easier?
just jack the car up and put it on stands. then lay under the hole in the floor and feed it through.
took me about 30 mins.. you can either take the seats out and pull the carpet up which will take hours or cut a hole in the carpet but make sure the hole will be covered by the centre console hahaha
where abouts are you located mate??
Near newcastle mate.
So whats the reason for cutting the carpet?
bugger i went past newcastle on the weekend :P
so you can unscrew your old handbrake cable plate and put your new one in.. and run the cable to your handbrake
I was going to get under the car and have a better look today but its just damn too hot.
Out of interest, how much will a new genuine front handbrake cable set me back.
from memory i payed $45 for mine.
so what was the reason for replacing the cable?
I am trying to diagnose an issue with my VX SS handbrake, it seems every week I need to get the car up on jack stands, pull the wheels and hub off, and tighten the damn handbrake up, then for 3 days it works like magic, the remaining 3 days it works only for the car going forward but does shit all backwards, then decides not to work at all, and starts squeaking.
I am starting to get jack of it, but it's not a stretching cable, I think the hub-adjusters have slackened off.
No use tightening the handle cable, because it seems to be pull the the internal hub pistons to their maximum, just seems like the adjuster gets thinner over time.

we were refering to the front hand brake cable which has snapped.
i'd say your brake shoes are stuffed?? or something around there
lol if holden told me "$70-$100" i'd tell them to get fckd!!
I have found holden over-priced for a lot of stuff, even when I get trade from one of their parts suppliers in NSW.
I wanted lifters for LS1, from Holden, $27.50 each (need 16 lifters to replace all lifters in the V8), but from a parts supplier in the USA for EXACTLY the same item, it was $57 shipped for all 16.
