I think they are about 1" shorter and a slightly 'harder' spring.

Yeah easy as. 1" won't make much difference with shocks (I mean it will make some small difference but not much worrying about). But if fitting with factory shocks, remember that if the springs are sagging/getting old, than the shocks are way past their use-by date.

Frankly, if you're doing the job yourself. Get some king lows at least. Its a bugger of a job and if you're going to use old FE2 springs, you'll be really disapointed in the end.

^Agree, get new springs, then you know what you are installing in your car. Spring are very important in the overall safety/handling of your car, really shagged/saggy springs are a bit of a danger. Too soft and you hit a corner too fast and a lot of weight will shift to the outside side of your car and you would break traction easily.

They have to be really stuffed to cause any real issues.
Its more that he'll spend 5-6hrs (if its his first time) stuffing around with it, and there will be dick all for his effort. King lows are what, $300 at most?

Kings are okay, you'll be disapointed because it wont lower it all that much.

If they're used, they probably wont be much harder then standard. Suspension in my SS (FE2) is knackered and its only seen 130k.

King lows aren't too bad for the price you pay. I'm getting Monroe GT shocks and king super low springs for my SS soon. Monroe and kings designed their product in cohutes, and claim the ride comfort to be not far removed from standard.

My VX sitting on King Lows, yes I checked the product code on each spring, buggered if I know why this happened but I like it.

on your vin plate in your engine bay there is a bit that says:
    susp : fe2
    or susp : std
basically fe1 is standard spring compressed height
fe2 is sports like sv6 ss etc etc
and i think fr2 is raised... not that many look for that one and its rare normally farmers

Have you tried going to a suspension place, I'm sure they can give you an idea of what your car would look like with wither spring.
