hey guys, i recently replaced my vt garnish with a vx one and now my boot releaseisnt working... any idea why this would happen? could i have accidently unpluged something or what?
any ideas would be appretiated
cheers
are you able to get into the boot via the middle seat?
yea mate, just not sure what to look for
any help guys? i still havnt figured it out
in the middle seat when you open it up ther should be a cord and when you find it jus put the cord and your boot should open
hey sorry i just got a profile today and i was wondering how i can start a new thread ??????? and if u can get into the boot through the seat im pretty sure u could pull the carpet back on the inside of the boot and manually release it
there should be a bright yellow cord behind ya middle seat?
well if the cord doesnt work...and the button in the glove box doesnt...wait do vt's have boot buttons in glovebox??...
anyway do ya hear the boot unlocking itself?? cus like ashbox said it mite need new struts..
Does it open with the key or not at all?
the boot doesnt open with the key or the glove box button haha, ill have a look into oulling that yellow cord today then see if i can find if i have disconected a wire or something, caqn someone tell me where exectly the cord or tab is
right behind the middle seat mate...mine is usually hangin to the left if i remember correctly lol...but you should be able to see it easily...like you'll
pop down the middle seat and bam there is this yellow cord
good luck
You can't tell me you missed all of these responses and still had to ask again.
But to answer your question, as already said above lol, pull down your middle seat, and look behind the drivers side rear seat, you will see a yellow handle attached to a metal rod, pull that and the boot should open.
Edit: well now i'm going to look like a douche lol, just asked a mate who informed me VTs don't have the yellow handle behind the passenger seat because you had the keyhole, so if you've put a vx garnish on, and haven't wired up the electric release properly, the only other option is to pop it manually, by crawling in the boot and popping it from the lock, if you know anyone else with a VT or VX you should be able to work out how. But it's basically where the latch is theres a manual release you can push down on to release the boot lid.

VT commodores dont have the boot release cord, because VT's had a key hole. If you replaced your VT garnish with a VX one, and DIDNT install a boot release cord, your almost screwed. You will need to, drop your middle seat, climb in there with a torch, pull back the carpet lining on the boot lid if you have one, and manually release it.
haha yea thought i was going blind, i was looking and looking and couldnt see one haha
Check your fuses i was pretty sure its on the hazard light fuse..... Gl
and be sure to let us now how all went.
Far out I hope it doesn't happen to me with my sub box i would never fit in the boot or be able to pull the carpet up lol.
You can lead a fool to wisdom but you can't make him think.
i removed the key on my vt for security reasons ,what i did do though was go to a wrecking yard and bought the cable from a vy and installed it on the vt ,funny enough the screw holes are already there ,hardest part about this job is hooking up the cable to the mechanism !!! takes about 15 mins all up ~
haha this agonisingthing brings back memories. i take a soccer coaching thing that theaches football skills. i go there in me ve and after trainings i tell the kids to chuck the balls in back cuz it wont budge. one kid goes up to me boot pulls it and still it wont open. he then proceeds giving it a kick to my annoyance then pulls on boot and magic it opens
anyway i wold not reccomend that. id go calais champs way
In doing the garnish swap you shouldnt have had to touch any of the wires at all besides the number plate lights.
What may have happened is you have knocked out the short thin rod connecting the actuator to the lock mechanism. They wear out over time and lose the hook on the end so can slide out easily if they are worn
VR through to VX wrecking in WA, must get rid of these!

hey guys sorry forgot about this thread.... just thought id let you know that my boot release works fine now
just involved me having to climb into the sauna and open the boot manually then reconecting the automatic boot release cable![]()
