Hi guys,
Today randomly my car started making this really weird sound from the rear, it sounds like something hitting a tin can over and over. seems to be coming from the right hand side, and seems to be on each wheel rotation as it gets quicker the faster the car is going. At higher speeds you can feel and hear the car shuddering in the rear. I'll be taking it down to the mechanics tomorrow to get it looked at, I was just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen before so i have an idea on what could be wrong and how much i would need to spend to fix it.
I tested a few things on the way home from work today as well. I noticed that if I'm not accelerating its quieter, but as soon as i start accelerating it gets louder, the faster I'm going the more frequent it is, If i put it into neutral and accelerate the sound will still be there but it does not get louder like it does when it's in drive, It doesn't seem to do it in reverse, although i don't think I've gone fast enough in reverse to be sure of that. I thought it might be the diff or the tail shaft or something, trying to think of things that would move more when accelerating thats all i could really think of. The diff is LSD, and i haven't touched it recently, the most recent thing I've done to it was remove it from the diff cradle and re-attach it when i swapped out the diff cradle for a VY one to fix camber issues. I did that in March and it's only just started now so i doubt that's the problem. Although i have not serviced the diff once in the 2 and a half years I've had the car, as i didn't think they needed servicing often, not sure if that could have something to do with it either.
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers, Jarrod
Hey guys, took it to my mechanic and it looks like the right axle is buggered. and just before i got there the diff went. Fun times, can't really think of anything that would have brought this on
Probably should have waited until he had had a proper look lol, turned out to just be both axles were loose, must have been when i put the VY rear end in we must have forgotten to put loctite on them. Thought i'd post this up so anyone converting from a vt - vx s1 to vx s2 - vy diff cradle make sure you loctite everything. ah well live and learn i guess.
