vt wagon noise????

hey guys an gals,

i know theres hundreds of posts already on steering noise but i figured easier to relay my own to get better opinions...

bought a 98 vt wagon today, making a creaking noise more so then a squek when i reverse or pput it into drive low speed an taking all bends and corners, power steer fluid is full an clean, was serviced 5000km ago according to logs..

noise is loud in cabin and noticable outside car too.. any suggestions??

The first thing I would be checking is the sway bar bushes where they connect to the small rods. This is a common problem, mine have been replaced twice
in my VT wagon (now replaced with after market kit). Also, check that the power steering rack is not loose - this also happened to me. It will make
a creaking noise at low speed, however you will not notice it at highway speed.

thanks paul, i actually got luky my new neighbour is a mechanic so i found out he drove it and hit nail on head saying was a dry ball joint $30 later an a 6 pack had it running smooth now i just have a rattle in back door which im assuming is the wiper mechanism come loose an rattling around since the back wiper isn't moving. thanks for ya help tho much appreciated
