Ok this is starting to bug me a bit.
When the revs drop to just below idle and sometimes even when idling at traffic lights the oil pressure light will come on and beep.
When i got the car serviced by nrma (yeah i now know i got ripped off and found a new mechanic...lol)
they said the oil pressure is fine but should stop driving if the light comes on and stays on.
Oh and nrma says theres no beep and it shouldn't beep but the car clearly does beep when this happens. go figure...
Has anyone had this problem and what has been the fix for it ?
Random smartarse comments also welcome)
Cheers, CK

if the oil pressure is fine then most likely the sender is failing, they are very simple to replace, they are on the bottom left at the front of the engine, just unscrew the old one and screw the new one in
do an error code check 1st tho to see if anything else comes up

Thanks mate,
I bought the "Max ellery commodore repair manual", that should tell me how to do the error check (I hope) as i didnt receive the original operators manual with the car.
Oh forgot to add, the new mechanic did a quick check on the car and pulled that sender out, had a look at it. It was 'damp' with oil. Is that normal ? dang cant remember what he said but im pretty sure he wasnt happy to see it in that condition.
cheers

oil pressure switches arent that much to replace, from memory about $60, im the sorta person who would change it just so i know its new.
also read this thread, it will be very useful for you and you will find out it can save alot of time.

If the oil pressure switch is the same as on the VS ecotec, then they cost $25 from holden.I got one a few weeks ago for my VSV6.
thanks for the help guys

Sorry I just need to say NRMA ARE USELESS HOPELESS
One my last car the car wouldn't start so 1st guy came out he said its the starter motor....Than 2nd nrma guy(nrma sparky) came out done some test's and said its the starter motor for sure..
So they changed the starter motor still didn't start...So they offered to take it out...I just said leave it in cause it was old anyway...
They towed it to a proper auto elec...Changed the battery terminals all good
Unbeliveable wasted 3 hours for a simple battery terminal change over i could easy do this...
Just goes to show NRMA HAVE NO IDEA
Well when it comes to roadside assist sometimes its better to ask for a tow straight up. Some of the guys are good and actually care about their job and can get you back on the road and some are probably FAILED or LAZY mechanics. It's pot luck who you get really.

Funny little problems will often screw you over too, the other day at work we had an auto surging and carrying on, it took about 4 hours to get diagnosed as a rubbed wire and about 1 minute to fix. customer obviously wasnt impressed and wondered why we wouldnt have known that straight away. Sometimes things are hard to trace and no matter how good a mechanic you are doesn't mean you'll figure it out straight away especially when traditional diagnostic methods lead you up the garden path. I bet your NRMA guy would have checked for power at starter then checked for power coming from the starter wire then seen no go so which makes him think starter for sure, but i highly doubt he did a continuity/ resistance test on the power wire from the battery to make sure its getting full power to the starter.
Yeah I 100% agree with the above. If all things were that easy to find and fix, there wouldnt be a roadside assistance. No one would need it.It can be a prick of a job tracking down certain faults,no matter how many years or how much experience you have under your belt.
commodore oil pressure senders are a common fault, cheap ($20) and easy to fix yourself
Thanks for the help guys.
I actually got my car serviced at an nrma service centre. They did a good job but they charged me way too much so i'm not going back there.
As for roadside assist, our family has always had older cars that dont need all this diagnostic equipment to find out whats wrong with them and when we had to call them out they got the car going again. After some further thought (yes it hurt) i'm probably being a bit too harsh on them cosidering all the different computer systems and new fandangled gadgets you find in modern cars these days.
