vt lvl 3 cluster conversion

is it possible to put a level 3 cluster into a vt ss wich only has the 1 window cluster? do i need to modify anything? ive searched and only found one thread were a guy had a vt ss v8 and put a vx v6 cluster in and apparently it worked but i want more confirmation than that before i waste money buying and cluster to find i need to spend hundreads to get it to work

You can swap the clusters around, without an issue. a VX lvl3 cluster will work in a vt lvl1 cluster car. Wiring is all the same. You jsut need to plug the car up to a tech2 (either at auto elec or holden) to program the cluster (v6/v8) rim size, tank size, etc.

ok well the vt is a 5.0 so what happends if i get one from another 5.0? will i still need to hook it up to the tech 2?

The clusters need to match your cars features - number of air bags, climate control - A/C. Gear box, diff, rims/tryes. All of which can be set via a Tech 2 programmer gizzmo. If you plug it in to test the cluster it will code an error for sure and then you will have to visit the tech 2 people.

Many people have done the upgrade - easy done - but it is a 2 step process. Buy the gluster and then get it matched to your car.

Nar dont plug it in until you are ready to program. It can vary as to cost from $25 for a simple airbag fix to $150 for a complete re program by a VDO bloke. Phreddy may be able to help or Dr Bob Rob's Creative Calibrations. I know I have sent a VT L3 for programming to Dr Bob with no problema nd the cluster woked a treat.
