i had mine replaced by Holden last year, and all of the parts required including a new compressor was only $600.52. No way secondhand should cost that much.
I've seen new Delphi OEM compressors on the net for less than $400.00. If you have a series 1 VT get the compressor changed to the type used on VT series 2 to VY as they are better.
A brand new compressor fitted and gassed woudl be in the order of $600. I have seen second hand compressors for about $90 so a good second hand one fitted and gassed should only be around $300.00
If you are planning to keep the car for a while, I would buy a new compressor. I had mine replaced a couple of years ago at a specialised air cond. place.
IF I do want to get a new compressor, and fitted.
