No it's not normal... The sludge is because oil & water don't mix, but before you confront your mechanic I suggest you flush the cooling system and check it again.

Also check under the oil cap as well... to see if you also have any sludge there as well.

    Good luck

if all the oil is milky i would be very upset
or if coolant is milky that matter
sometimes when doing headgaskets people let coolant down the oil galleries (moronitis disease)
and the milkyness will go away after a good thorough oil change... might be just this but there wouldnot be much gunk just a little bit...
also is your auto fluid milky white? might be a cracked heat exchanger in the radiator for the trans cooler.....

check your trans fluid (if its auto) cos the trans coolers can split and leak fluid out into the coolant

And if it is trans oil in coolant, it takes ages to get rid of it. One new radiator and four flushes later I still get some under my radiator cap

That's good... means that there is no visible leak in the engine but you are still getting oil into the system somehow.

I'm no mechanic and if your car is an auto.... you probably have a lower radiator tank to transmission cooler leak. Check you auto gearbox for any sludge as well.

i thought if trans fluid was mixing it would be a brownish colour but not using trans fluid very strange my mechanic is sick of hearing from me
