2.15 REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY — SEDAN

REAR QUARTER LAMP ASSEMBLY
REMOVE

1. Open rear compartment.
2. Remove rear quarter lamp assembly to body
attaching screws, refer to Fig.12B-30.
3. Pull rear quarter lamp housing sideways out from
panel so that locating peg on side of lamp assembly
snaps free from retainer.
4. While supporting lamp housing, remove back-up
light bulb socket, turn signal bulb socket and
stop/tail light bulb socket by turning socket
anti-clockwise and removing.

REINSTALL
1. Insert bulb sockets into rear quarter lamp housing,
ensuring sockets are correctly located and lock
securely into place.
2. Ensure that rear quarter lamp harness grommet is
seated correctly. Assemble lamp housing to body,
ensuring locating peg snaps into retainer and install
and tighten attaching screws to the correct torque
specification.

REAR QUARTER LAMP HOUSING TO
BODY ATTACHING SCREW
TORQUE SPECIFICATION

1 – 3 Nm
3. Check rear lamp operation.

I was struggling with this seemingly simple task today! I have removed the nuts from the screws, but the screws themselves are still in the plastic housing. I am assuming they need to come out of the plastic housing so the whole piece can be moved sideways? I tried lightly taping them out with a hammer but they don't budge! I didn't want to risk breaking the plastic so I thought I'd check here first. I doubt these screws have been removed since the car was made! I have never changed them as I would certainly remember seeing as it is so tricky, compared to how easy all the other bulbs are to change!

Any tips on how to get the screws out? Assuming they need to come right out?

Thanks in advance!

You can't use VT/VX instructions for a VSII (assuming your ride description is accurate). You need to remove the THREE nuts from their retainers inside the boot and the light unit should just pull straight out to the rear. Perhaps you haven't removed one of the nuts.

Thanks for that. Your right, I thought I was in the VS instructions, I saw the right year, 1997, but missed the important part! That might explain why I had trouble removing it! haha!
