Looking at some VX Berlina and im not sure if i should get one on Gas or not.
I travel about 350 km a week to work and i am wondering is there really that much a saving by having a car on Gas doing this many KMs a week ?
Ive found to cars i like but one is on gas and the other isnt. The one that isnt on gas i like more than the one on Gas
HELP HELP IM CONFUSED
Pookie didn't anyone's response in this thread (that you started 11 days ago) answer your questions?
VX On Gas
Id never own a gas car but that just my opinion!
Yea gas has a bad rep 'cause of the old mixer setups which are fraught with problems. Not so with the latest gas injection (vapour or liquid) it's come a long way since the mixer days.
But i understand a lot of people feel the same way as you, particularly those who've owned a car with a dodgy gas installation.
My guess is long term LPG may fall by the wayside anyway as the govt will start taxing it to the hilt (even more than the upcoming 12.5% over 5 years 2011-15). That'd leave PULP only for the old-school enthuiasts (classic V8's etc) as the demand for gas will decline to the point the servos won't bother with it anymore. If that eventuates it'll be a real pity as in Australia we have heaps of gas in reserve (Bass Strait etc) to last us ages.
But i've read the experts saying electric cars will overtake combustion engines within 20 years, so the question of "gas or petrol?" will no longer be relevant.

just for the record LPG is cheap because it's a by product of making petrol and not from the gas reserves we have in bass strait
there are some good points and bad for useing gas
good points
cheap to fill
good for engine
good for the environment
bad points
have to get to check each year plus your rego ( add cost )
the gas tank only last 10 years and has to be pull out and sent away for checks
lost in boot space
you use more gas than petrol so less kms
Here's an LPG calculator that might help.

Yes you will save money on gas, and if you're buying a car already converted you'll be in front from day one.
One trip i do regularly is Bathurst to Albury. It's approx 450km and on my VT's old mixer setup i always used about 59-60 litres of gas (about 30-35% more than petrol). When i refilled in Albury it cost 60L x 52.9¢ = $31.74. It is always cheaper in Albury than Bathurst, so on the return trip it cost 60L x 62.9¢ = $37.75.
The same trip on petrol used approx 45L of gas, so it costs 45L x 122.9¢ = $55.30. Therefore i did save $. I save even more now on my new gas injection setup as it only uses approx 25% more.
These are V6 Supercharged figures so the litres used will be slightly lower on an Ecotec, but the percentages are the same.
I have sequential vapour injection fitted to my 98 V6 VT. I keep records of kilometres/gas use at each refill over the 50,000 Km that it has been fitted. By my calculations my fuel cost is just UNDER half of the cost of the same Kilometres on petrol. Not one problem in that time. Two gas services in that time (every 20,000Km) @ $32 per service. Couldn't be happier.
Old Timer, you did not mention that you are getting (or should be) very similar litres per 100k on gas injection as you were/would on petrol. A friend of mine is a gas fitter and he tells me that all his customers with gas injection (liquid or vapour) are very happy with it.
Graham7773, before I had the SVI fitted I kept the same sort of records of fuel consumption/kilometres traveled while running on petrol. Over the 15,000 kilometres I had the car before the gas installation , average was 10.2 litres/100Km. For the 50,000 Km since the installation, average has been 11.1 litres/100Km. Still doing roughly the same proportion of metropolitan / country / freeway driving. As I said I'm very happy, so is my wallet.
hey i gotta vt v6 on gas...around town just as cheap on petrol as gas..long runs gas good... put $20 petrol and $20 gas in and run both empty{almost}//check mileage... cheers
just curious, i have a vt on gas which is a mixer setup but i want to go injected, just wondering if anyone would know the rough costs as i would already have the tank and stuff like that, just need stuff in engine bay changed i guess
I did mine in July this year, went from a Sprint Gas mixer setup to an Impco BRC Sequent Plug & Drive vapour injection system (aftermarket version of the factory BRC Sequent system fitted to VE's). Cost exactly $3000 at a installer in Katoomba NSW.
Yes the tank, filler and lines are kept, they just install a front-end kit whcih includes the gas injectors, computer, wiring and dash changeover switch. Other brands of vapour injection front-end kits are available such as Eurogas (i was quoted $3300 in Orange NSW) & Prins (quoted $3350 in Sydney) but in the end i chose the BRC system not on cost but because Holden use it. I haven't looked back & am happy with it. You'd only need a new tank and lines if you converted to liquid injection (effectively a complete new installation - they only keep the filler) for which i was quoted $5500 at a place in Sydney which i decided was too much right now. But that said i might consider liquid for my next car as the technology will have been perfected by then (and if the upcoming LPG excise doesn't make the cost uneconomical).

if you put ur car on gas make sure u run it on petrol now and then cause holden heads r a soft metal and after a while if u run ur car on gas all the time the valves and lifters will tap wheres ford heads can handle gas mind u i am a holden fan true and through
gas injection is the best but b sure u want to pay
