Had rear brakes discs machined and new pads put in under 3 months ago.New pads were put in only the last 12 months. My issue is all of a sudden the brakes pedal becomes real sloppy and dont get any braking until I push it to the floor and the handbrake alarm sounds.I can also smell it cooking. If I turn the car off and put in park and put hand brake on then restart the problem recitfies itself sometimes. This is an intermittent problem so not all the time.Plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir so that is not a problem. Can someone please tell me if it is an electronic issue or something major is happening here. Thanks heaps if you can give me some advice.
Am going to take it to mechanic tomorrow but would like to get a heads up on what is possibly happening to it as dont want to get screwed over and have an idea what is going on?Cheers
sounds like air in the lines maybe, probably wasnt bleed properly
Just a thought, when was the brake fluid last changed? It sounds like the brake fluid is boiling (overheating) either due to not being changed in a long time and containing moisture or maybe a caliper is not releasing properly and you have the pads rubbing continualy and causing the brake fluid to boil. When it boils you loose your pedal and when it cools a bit the pedal normally returns to close to normal. May be the problem may be not, but worth checking, a good mechanic should be able to check the moisture content of the brake fluid.
