Cool Supercharger vs HSV XU6 and 5L V8

Hey everyone, you wouldnt believe how hard it is to find the factory specs for performance on supercharged V6's and the standard 5L 179kw engine that Holden made.

I was trying to compare performance of the stock factory made cars. (no mods or upgrades)

The HSV XU6 was 0-100 kmh in 7.5 secs in auto (only auto was available).
I read somewhere the auto VT supercharged does 8.1 secs but I can't find manual info anywhere.
    I can't find any info on the 5.0L V8 179 kw engine.

Any info would be grand and a reference to a respectable source would be even better.

    thanks

    Pft, 5.0ltr any day.
Not saying the L67 is bad engine. But there's no replacement for displacement.

Hmm yeah, a 5L fixed displacement engine or a 3.8L V6 with a 1.5L per revoloution charger on top which equals= ??? Throw a slightly smaller pulley on the charger and it's a complete goodnight for the 5L

OP asked for a comparison of "Factory stock cars". Throwing a smaller pulley on a L67 doesn't fit this category thus the comment is irrelevant to this thread.

Lets take the year 1998 as the baseline.

    Model: VT XU6 / VT SS 5.0L / VT S 3.8S
    Power: 180kW @ 5000rpm / 179kW @ 5200rpm / 171kW @ 5200rpm
    Torque: 380Nm @ 3200-3200rpm / 430Nm @ 3600-3600rpm / 375Nm @ 3000-3000rpm
    0-100kmph: 7.7 / 8.2 / 7.2

That's the stats on redbook so they should be accurate(ish)

I'm a little funny on the 0-100kmph figure for the 5.0L but it is about 50kg heavier than the other 2.

    Hope that's what you're after.

    lol, fixed displacement...

If you're going to start modifying cars, start with the biggest platform from the get go is all I can say.

Depends how much you want to spend and how far you want to go. Dollar for dollar the L67 is better bang for buck up until a point. Spend 2k on the L67 and 2k on the 5L and the L67 will shit all over the 5L. Spend 20k on both motors and it would probably be a different story.

Careful Thomas, throwing a couple of grand at the 5ltr or L67 doesn't fit this category, thus your comment is irrelevant to this thread.
We all know how important relevance is.

Thanks for the info it shows the super6 was quicker than the 5.0L. My question now then is about a commodore S supercharged vs an HSV XU6. That red book site looks like they make up the figures themselves. 7.2 secs seems a bit quick to me as thats 1.8 secs quicker than a standard V6 and 0.3 secs quicker than the XU6 model which had several expensive HSV mods.

The XU6 also has leather seats, body kit and bigger wheels........all add up to more weight. They do look much much nicer thought so it comes down to what you want the car to do
