    Default Crank pully bolt

    VT v6 Berlina wagon

    I have to change my crank angle sensor today. Can anyone tell me if the bolt is a left hand thread or right hand thread?

    Also, any hints into getting it out other than locking it in and cranking he engine?

    The main crank pulley bolt undoes the normal way,right hand thread.And using a long bar to lock the rachet against the chassis rails or the ground while the engine is cranked, is the easiest way to get these pulley bolts undone,unless the gearbox is a manual.If thats the case,just put it in reverse gear with the handbrake on.That should stop the engine from turning.Otherwise you need to make, or get hold of the special tool that holds the balancer and stops it from turning while the nut is undone.Ive also seen people remove a spark plug and stick a screwdriver into the cylinder to jam up the piston to stop the engine turning over, I wouldnt go doing anything like that.But thats up to you.You can also remove the starter motor and jam up the flywheel.Its a prick of a job just getting to the starter motor.

    Make sure before u crank it over to crack the bolt u take out the fuel pump relay and run the car till it dies(coz I runs out of fuel)

    Thanks guys, cranking it worked a treat. Now my problem is getting the harmonic balancer off. 10 mins to get the bolt out and 2 hours to get the pulley off!....

    I went down to autobarn to get a harmonic balancer remover and .... total shite! Waste of twenty bucks.

    The pully has three holes in it but nothing for a bolt to thread into. Should I be looking at something with a claw to grip the pulley?

    So much thanks. I learning heaps here!

    I have removed a balancer with a large set of the three claw type pullers but I had to remove the engine cooling fans to make enough room to use one of those pullers. Unfortunately I lent that puller to someone on this forum to help them out and never got it back. Just though I would throw that in.
