Hi all
My car is leaking power steering Fluid
I found the hose in question but i just need your advice if i need any o rings or anything els
Its the hose that goes from pump to rack its the rubber hose that is cracked
Also i have strange noise coming from front of engine....No it is not power steering noise
Its sounds like a bearing is stuffed
I have changed 3 idler pulley's and bearings , alternator and water pump...
How do i check the other ones i have removed the belt all seems to be tight and they spins fine
Is there another common noise other than the bearing stuff up and make noise???
Any comments Welcome
Thanks in advance![]()
my ss had the same problem but all it was is the water pump bearing had some sideways movement and one of the idler pulleys was noisy. being an apprentice diesael mechanic i can pin point some stuff. could be power steering pump bearings. also bearings should spin freely not tight. with the power steering leak either cut the hose n re-use n replace the hose clamp or replace the hose n clamp again.mine had the same problems. all the best

i take it the hose is the high pressure one(the one that screws into the pump and screws into the rack), if it has a crack it could be sucking in air and causing the system to airate causing the noise, i know you siad its not the pump but replace the hose before you change anything else just to be sure.
I just changed my waterpump on the weekend due to tiny tiny bit of movement side to side
But after i fitted the new one had the exzact same thing tiny tiny bit of movement side to side
when i took old water pump off it didn't have a spacer so i didn't install a spacer to new pump
Its running around the middle of the waterpump pulley.....But do you or anyone els know if a spacer is needed 1996 vt v6 commodore
As for the power steering i am getting my machanic to change this hose.....But he has forgoten little parts in the past....( I only use him as he is moblie,And i can watch him while i have a few beers)
So he will be changeing the whole hose....Is there anything extra i should remind him about????
O rings or anything els??????????????????
Also regarding the powersteering bearing is this easy to change???? Whats involved in this task????
Thanks for your help
the belt itself could be causing the noise, did you change it when you did the water pump? Apparently they get noisy when they get coolant on them.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
I changed belt around 6 months ago
At first i thought it was the belt but i sprayed wd40 on it same noise
But its for sure some kind of bearing noise
How would i find this noise for sure????
I do know about the long handle screw driver test...But all the other pulleys the bolts move with the engine
As the idler pulley can easy be checked as the middle bolt is a fixed bolt that doesn't move
Thankyou all your help
