Question Big end bearings gone, where to know?

I've been driving my VT Acclaim sII for a while and love the car. The big end bearings have just gone. I am just wondering what my next course of action should be, new engine or new car? How much approx. would a new engine set me back? Would I be wasting my time to do it? I know the previous owner flogged the shit out of it, but i have just replaced the radiator and trans. Any help would be great. Cheers

Buy a second hand engine and bung it in. New engine will cost around (I think last time I asked) $5000.

and i guess the beauty of doing it this way is then you can get ur original one repaired and either flog it off and recover some cash or keep it as a spare.

just remember when replacing the engine, u'll need to notify your local road traffic authorities (for rego) and ur current insurer.

if you end up going for another car, u wont get much selling off yours with engine damage, might be better parting it out

Yeah you should be able to get a really good condition motor for around $600 or an average one for about $400. If you're not mechanically minded you're looking at about $400-$500 for labor to fit.
