Question Master slave cyclinder issues LS1 Manual

    Gday boys,
Last night noticed the clutch pedal feeling abit strange and really had to drive the pedal down to the floor in order to get gears. Especially 1st and Reverse. Realese point was really low and crunching second gear. Popped the bonnet and noticed a dry clutch fluid resavoir. Took it to the shop and they tell me its a master slave cyclinder problem. Anyone experienced this?? Relacment of the slave cyclinder and thrust bearings ( genuine) $500 fitted. Does this sound about right? Any help will be great. Cheers.

How old is the clutch in the car? Its a big job to replace the slave cylinder as it is inside the bellhousing.

If the clutch is getting on it may pay to replace it at the same time to save on labour.

It does sound about right and it is a comon fault that I know of and I agree with Langas about the clutch.

Also guys one more thing do u know if they make aftermarket stronger slave cyclinders? 500 was the quote on a genuine, dont want it to really happen again if there weak. Or is it just a matter of wear and tear.

You can usually get the master cylinder itself replaced the same time as the clutch for only $150-$200 extra. All adds up to around $1800-$2000, but you won't need to touch it for another 150,000kms plus depending on your driving style.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere

ok.. Got the news today that clutch is buggered and will be changed at the same time. Now tossing up between a TEXT or XTREME since the slave cylinder is thrashed too Xtreme clutch kit comes with master slave cylinder for 1k. On the other hand TEXT dont come with slave and they want $1450 for the z grip. Any one with advise on both clutches?

Its a bit of a double edged sword...I decided the next step up from the xtreme would be the Zgrip....But driveability wise I wasn't too keen as my girlfriend struggles driving this car as is so I just went for the xtreme. The car yard I bought the car from covered half the cost of it as the one that was in the car was nearly buggered and they noticed that when they were replacing the rear main seal....So I got the slave cylinder, pressure plate, clutch plate and flywheel all replaced for $500

I am yet to get myself an OTR and have the car tuned. That will happen fairly shortly...It will be interesting to see how the new clutch will handle the extra grunt but I can't see it having too many issues

$500 thats an awesome price. so the xtreme is a little bit easier to drive than the z grip? i also have the same problem of the missues wanting to drive my car even though i just brought her a bloody cruz thanks for your help will look into a xtreme i think as my clutch has 116,000km on it now an i think it is time to replace it.

yeah, I had the Xtreme Street installed with a new master cyl and ARP bolts. Cost me $2k for parts and 6hrs labour. Cheapest I could price the clutch kit alone was $1,400. Very happy with the clutch, took a while to get used to a clutch that needs a bit of strength, ever since I picked up the car it was soft as fresh dog-turd

Now I need the diff oil changed, it's clunking a bit
