if manuals are anything liek autos, with worn old oil they are fine when cold and a nightmare when hot,
anyways i was thinking since my gears are abit sticky after reaching running temp i would drop the oil and replace with quilty stuff
how is it i drain the oil on this 6spd (gen3) and what good quilty oil should i use to refill?
Cheers

when i was looking at mine the other day im sure on a sticker it said to use A.T.F dexron 3 even though it is a manual?

Transmax will be fine in a stock/near stock T56, or you can just use a quality Dex3 as GM say to use.
am in the same boat. but am planning to do an ATF flush better then drop the pan and refill again coz you need to drain the old fluid which is still in the torque converter as-well. most of the trannys shops do drain and refill and they charge you between 150 to 188$. anyway its really easy to do it in drive way.first u need transmition kit for 30$ with any tranny brand fluid but dexron 3. now disconnect the supply hose at the bottom of the radiator and put an extension tube in it and then disconnect the return hose and put a pan underneath . take out the tranyys dipstick and put fresh oil in with engine running in (N) GEAR and look at the color of the fluid coming out from the extension hose once it turn red turn off the engine... remove pan and change gasket and filter .........that's it ur don enjoy....
by the way u need at least 12 liters of trannys oil coz ur flushing otherwise if dropping pan and refill u need only 4.8ltrs....
i think in the owners manual it says that to refer to your Holden dealer if its manual...
here is the owner manual copy.
Yep thats what is says.Never done it myself was looking at it the other day till i read that to. But it cant be that hard there will be a drain an a filler hole. An on the box it says to use dexron 3 A.T.F but as wikky has said there are other brands you can use to.

dex 3 automatic fluidis the right stuff.
However you will find that a lot of people, including myself, use Transmax Z. I find it a lot better for shifting.
If you have a look on the LS1 forum, there is a how to.
The best practice is to fill the box up by removing the reverse plug switch and filling, it allows about an extra 500ml of oil in there compared to filling it through its normal filler. People find the extra oil can quiet them doen if they are noisey.
It is an easy job, just need the right tools and also a manual oil pump to get the oil into the box. There is no room under there to pour straight from the container to the box.

I'd be going for some of the Penrite MGO70 - specially designed for the T56, rather than the Transmax Z, which is an auto trans fluid. Plenty have put the Penrite in now and the gearbox runs VERY smoothly, with a reduction in noise.

Narr mate ,all they said was ,there is no need to change it, it stays like that for life.
i kinda thought every 80,000-100,000k`s it would be good idea to change it out but now im abit confused lol

interesting so what thery are saying is manuals dont need a fluid change? i would change it anyway new fluid to me would be better than old fulid an i cant see it doing anything bad to your box unless you forget to refill it of course.
