Yes, that is reasonably normal. Straight away, going on a long run will improve your fuel economy. I just came back from a trip to Beaudesert in Qld and my V6 Acclaim Wagon returned around 8l per 100Ks. If your V8 is running sweet, you should expect around 9-11l per 100Ks if you are not leadfooted. You have already done the spark plugs and leads? I suggest a new air filter if you have not already done that. By the way, after you have done around 500K of the trip, be sure to check your engine oil. You will find that it is down a bit, just top it up. The engine oil loses a bit of volume after a long high speed run due to removal of water, acid and fuel that has seeped into or built up in it. By the way, carrying too much gear in the car won't help your economy

5.0 v8 with auto around town that doesn't sound too out of the ordinary

an XR6 turbo ZF 6 spd isn't far behind (depending on how hard you hit it)

ive got a vt ss ls1 i get 15 ltrs per 100 ks thats stop start traffic and when i have the chance i open it up i cant help it ive got the power so i might aswell use it, i dont have the three window cluster but i get 300 ks then i fill it up and ive only used 45ltrs so thats how i work it out, i think there is something wrong with my fuel gauge though because it sits on empty with the fuel light on when ive only done 300 but its a 75 ltr tank and ive only used 45 so theres still 30 ltrs in there but im not game enough to risk it
doin skids for the kids and doughnuts for the grown ups
