Default my thermofan runs constantly even when engine off

i left my car after driving home from work overnight and i noticed the thermofan was still running

i thought it was just the hot weather

next morning the battery was dead

$130 later from repco i find the fan runs even with the engine is off

    otherwise car starts fine

is the switch that turns on the fan dead?

i have left the battery terminal off so it doesn't kill the battery and will drop it down to the mechanic on monday

Either the low speed fan relay or the high speed fan relay could be stuck on. Try changing the relays around one at a time with another of the same type.

it's the little shitty things that piss you off

i will need to get to the mechanic first thing... he's near a station but if he'll look at it right away i hope he can change the relay or sometihng

this stuff sucks without a 2nd car... i've been driving my other one all weekend

The relays are in the engine bay and there should be a diagram under the cover that explains the fuses and relays. Just pull the relevant relay out and see if the fan stops, if so replace the relay. It will be much cheaper than a mechanic.

happened to my vt before and it's only a stuck relay. it's a common problem and the relay is only about $10 from holden sparepart. easy to replace yourself.

in the engine bay on the driver side, next to the battery there's the relay box. pull open the cover, and like accentstencil said, look under the cover to locate the fan relay. from memory it was dark blue in colour (the rest are black)? if the fan stopped when you pull the relay out, that's the problem relay.

edit: the replacement relay i got was white in colour, tyco brand, just in case yours is one of these.

edit 2: if you need to use the car, just remove the relay when you stopped. alot easier than removing and putting back the battery terminal
