How do i change a leakinf power steering pump on a VT berlina sedsn
I presume that you were too embarrassed to admit that you drove a V6 so I included the V6 instructions:
POWER STEERING PUMP-V6 ENGINE
REMOVE
1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
2. Loosen the four power steering pump pulley attaching bolts (Do not remove at this stage).
3. Using an 15 mm ring spanner on drive belt tensioner pulley pivot bolt, rotate tensioner pulley anti-clockwise and remove drive belt from pump pulley. Release tensioner pulley.
4. Remove pump pulley attaching bolts and pulley.
5. Place a drain tray beneath power steering pump assembly.
6. Loosen and remove high pressure line flare nut and O-ring from pump outlet fitting.
7. Loosen low pressure hose clamp and remove hose from reservoir.
NOTE:
Cover or tape the pump and hose fittings to prevent contamination ingress.
8. Remove the two power steering pump retaining bolts and remove the pump from the
retaining bracket.
9. If required, remove the two bolts securing the retaining bracket to the cylinder block, then
remove the bracket.
REINSTALL
Installation of the power steering pump is the reverse of removal procedures, noting the following points:
1. Tighten retaining bracket to cylinder block retaining bolts to the correct torque specification.
PUMP RETAINING BRACKET 30 – 40 Nm
2. Tighten the two pump to retaining bracket attaching bolts to the correct torque specification.
PUMP TO RETAINING BRACKET 30 – 40 Nm
3. Tighten the four pump pulley attaching bolts to the correct torque specification.
PUMP PULLEY BOLT 20 – 30 Nm
4. Install new sealing O-ring to high pressure line connection. Lubricate sealing ring with DexronŽ III automatic transmission fluid prior to installation.
5. Refill and bleed hydraulic system
6. Start engine and check for fluid leaks around pump and reservoir area
high pressure fluid line - 16mm spanner
pulley bolts - 10mm (pulley can be removed by hand once unbolted)
pump housing bolts - 13mm (be carefull not to overtighten the lower bolt. it wil snap easily)
i also ended up needing a new res. to pump hose. i couldnt get my old one to quit leaking. it was only $10 from preston motors holden, plus $3 for new clamps, so not too steep. its all finished anyway, and no (none, zero, zilch) leaks
pretty easy really. i made it harder than it could have been of course :P
Sorry im a little confused hear;
5. Refill and bleed hydraulic system
Isnt that just runing the car on with the p/s reservoir cap off? Coz the reservoir is the at the highest point in the p/s system it will kinda bleed itself, theres not really much to do?
