    Default Interior illumination frustration!

So i've spent the last few months trying to do an LED conversion to my instrument cluster like the boys at ASR audio do...I did it and it looked absolutely incredible when I put it in. My only worry was blowing a fuse which didn't happen...so I was happy and relieved that it was all working well. just to make sure of things i wanted to start the engine...none of the dials work, i get no speed, no revs, no petrol level and no temperature...oh and the indicator doesn't activate. why is this? i've made sure everything is connected properly, made sure nothing is touching anything it's not supposed to and when i put my original cluster in it works perfectly. HELP!!!! but other than that the lights look awesome! is it possible that i'm drawing too much power to the lights and not enough to the dial mechanisms?

ye i checked the plug 3 or 4 times and it's all in properly. ye just for the moment i just did the cluster lights, they looked awesome but the dials weren't giving me a reading so i just put my old cluster back in for the mean time. and i checked for a possible wrong LED but they were all in fine. It's not the lights that are the problem, it's the dials, when i turn the engine on the lights work perfectly, but my revs don't move, the petrol gauge doesn't move, nor the speed or water temp, nothing, but the lights work fine.

I haven't fixed it yet coz i had to go out, but i have ONE more theory which I'm going to try tomorrow night...i'll keep you guys posted. if that fails i'm going to try it all out on my old cluster to see what happens. hopefully one of the ASR guys sees this and can shed some light. oh ye...sorry but what's SMD?

You have normal led globes than you also have SMD led globes....Hard to explain what they look like but the smd is more of a flat surface
They are meant to be brighter....Maybe use less power

    Did you find the problem???

Just wondering why did you change the cluster to fit the led?????
Why didn't you just put the led's in your old cluster??

I haven't re-done it yet coz i'm at work, but the reason i didn't do it in the old cluster in the first place was because i didn't know what i was doing at first and didn't know how long it would take and i had a lot of trial and error and wanted something to put back in my car straight away coz i do a lot of night driving. and it's taken me a looong time to get it right. so yeah.

try taking the pressure off each needle by prying them up slightly. if u do put the needles back on 2 hard they will stick and not work.

The cluster u did the conversion on is from wat car originally?? Also do both clusters have the white backing or r any black? if the clusters from a V8 with a 250kms reading ur tacho will b out aswell as ur speedo but that doesnt explain y ur temp and fuel needles dont work.

i made sure of all of that. i give up...i put everything back together in the old cluster and put it back in my car but now that isn't even working properly. fuel gauge doesn't work, speedo is extremely delayed... wrx884 you're the ASR rep ye? I'm going to send you a new cluster for you to make for me. I'm not going to give you my old one in case you make it look beautiful and then the needles don't work. so if you could please inbox me prices, addresses and postage etc it would be greatly appreciated....just sucks tho coz the lights worked perfectly...just the needles weren't working. but i did notice that when i disabled some of the lights that the needles did start to move...but now they're just frozen.

I am 4 WA yeah but Greg (pheddy) is the main man in ASR.

It a bit hard 2 know wats goin on with out seeing the cluster and how u have ur lights arranged and where ur getting ur 12V source from but sound like the needles mechs have been damaged from being pushed down 2 hard.

The clusters u have do they both have a white back or black??? i'll send u a PM back reguarding the cluster work.
