Default VT V6 auto gearbox trouble, lost gears

Hi all, have a v6 auto, to begin with it lost first gear, was taking off in 2nd, changing to 3rd and o/d. did a trans service with new oil and filter, now its stuck in first stage, wont change to 2nd, 3rd or o/d, when ya lift off the gas while in first, doing say 40km @6000rpm, it goes back to nuetral and idle, as ya bring the revs back up while still travelling, it goes straight back to first. revesre has been working fine, besides a bit off an occasional clunk when engaging. doesnt appear to be slipping while in first, under load, stall speed while stationary is around 2000. car has 250kms on it. any advice???

sounds like a blockage can you change gears manually?
like in drive its always in second but if you select first than second will it change to second?
    -fluid level is correct?
-fluid is correct dex3 or red auto fluid?

was changing gears and doing everything fine before we changed the oil and filter, just wasnt using first, now after changing the oil it goes straight to first and stays there. doesnt not change manually, fluid level may be slightly high now. put nulon red auto trans fluid in it.

when you put the new filter in, is there any possibility that you disturbed the wiring harness inside the gearbox?

if all you have done is change the oil and filter and it changed when the fault occurs
then the cause may be incorrect oil or some crap has gotten into the valve body and is cuasing the vlave for 1-2 shift to stick
or the harness on the electric solenoids on the valve body have been knocked off their connectors ( will set a code)
stopping short of stripping the box...
with car running at idle change into every gear manually for 3 seconds each e.g. p-r-n-d-3-2-1-2-3-d-n-r-p-r-n-d-3-2-1-2-3-d-n-r-p
then with it running check the auto level is correct
    if it is correct
check the fluid you used meets the spec for the box, dex3 is normal holden stuff should be like multipurpose auto fluid written on it somewhere
if it is suitable for your car the next thing i would do is see if any codes are logged in the auto computer (go to mechanic)
if there wasnt any codes i would change the auto fluid and filter and blow out everything i could in the valve body while i had the filter off
to do this you remove the electronic solenoids at either end of the valve body and just use air compressore and an air gun to blow through
all the holes you can get to
then use multi purpse auto fluid (standard stuff repco etc,) and try it again
if the above failed the it is likely that a valve in the auto pan is sticking on its bore or debri which woiuld require an auto transmission shop
to strip out the valve body and dissasemble it and check all the valves (rebuild valve body)

yea thats what i was thinking, sounds like im gonna have to take the pan back off again. simply changing the oil and filter shouldnt have made it worse.
you think it would be worth getting it flushed, or just pull the vavle body apart and blow it out?

Did you replace the filter with the correct type ? Maybe you have a deep pan sump and fitted a shallow pan filter . The early VTs used a shallow pan and the later VTs through to the VY used a deep pan . The deep pan filter is black and the shallow pan is grey.

correct if you have done this oil would not be getting out of the filter quick enough either...
    this has made me think
did the collar come out? where the filter goes into the trans (pipe) if its not in there the oil would not be getting filtered this would damage trans long term though
